Fisher Console Roadside Find!

Both of my 65 Consoles(Custom Electra VIII and FUTURA VI) have ITT for FISHER branded 6HU8 tubes. Made in Germany.

If it were mine, I'd round up a schematic, and replace all the coupling caps, and prolly the power supply caps too before ever turning it on again.

I'm kinda surprised that ELL80's are running that much. I bought a couple of pairs when I picked up my Allegro for about $40 a pair off of E-prey....:scratch2:
 
Nice find/save! I actually had to pay for my Fisher Philharmonic. I thoroughly enjoy the sound and like that it is a smaller console. Enjoy!
 
FWIW, I was given a Blaupunkt table radio in Germany missing an ELL80. Went to the old-timey Main Funk Radioladen parts place in Frankfurt and bought a tube-in-a-box with ELL80E on it. Inside was a 9-pin plug with 2ea 7 pin sockets loaded with a pair of EL95s, an adapter with the cheaper & easier to get tubes.

I have a Grundig NF 10 stereo amp chassis that uses 2 of them, it would get the adapter treatment if it needed new tubes.
One possible solution to the ELL80 shortage.

Beautiful console! :drool: 5 Telefunken 12AX7s and a good EM84A tuning eye, nice haul of tubes for sure. Do invest in a variac and some new coupling caps and power supply parts before you fire it up again. :yes: I'm willing to bet that there's a selenium rectifier in there just waiting to blow up.
 
Lucky you...it uses #47 lamps instead of the $&%*#&%! festoon lamps. Great find, but for heaven's sake, recap and replace the selenium rectifier!

P-291s sound pretty good and can be operated as a standalone as well as nested into their hidey-hole. Not high power, but sonically it'll give you a taste of the Fisher.
 
What would be a reccomended rectifier replacement (volts/amps)?

And where could I find a schematic? I would love to get this recapped before the week's out.
 
Mine's long gone. Can't help with paperwork. I never saw a schematic, though I think it had the tube diagram on the back. If there was paperwork, perhaps TheRed1 has it.
 
Very nice! I have the remains of a similar Philharmonic........ mine was a modern cabinet, Though. I pulled the receiver, and it's sitting here in the living room. I like it a lot.

Audiodon, yours was a 1964 Philharmonic IV with the 290-T Chassis vs. the 1965 and 1966 Philharmonics with the 29-T chassis. Very similar but there are differences - I will post the tube layouts of each in the Fisher Consoles sticky for comparison purposes. I do have the owner's manual for the 1964 Philharmonic IV which is probably nearly identical to the 1965 and 1966 Philharmonic manuals. PM me with an email address if you'd like a scan. No schematics, though.

holy crap! what a score!! those good old estate sale leftover consoles!! i remember as a kid the old console stereo would never sell at estate sales. i used to pluck a dozen or so of those a year back in the day on curbside trashpyles! but i never found a fisher. rightous score bro!!!
 
Well, an update....

It's in daily use with all original components. No problems at all. Someday I might drop a Dual 1218 or Garrard Zero 92 in it.
 
David....you're walking thru a Mine Field with it. Case in point. BOTH my 1965 FUTURA and 1965 Custom ELECTRA have Hybrid setups. Tube Tuner/pre with a 12ax7-2ELL80's feeding 8 transistors for the Futura and 4 Transistors for the Electra. In BOTH CASES, EVERY ONE of the ERO or EROFOIL Capacitors had bulged out the sides and puked. (all the caps were axials). The weird thing was both units worked!!! Yeah WORKED! And I used them for a couple months before they both got recapped. The Futura ended up with a Filter cap that started heating up due to the ERO's leaking so they got recapped.


Please!! Recap it ASAP to lessen the chance of it dying catastrophically or Burning your house down. Leave the Mother of all Stereo's/Shock and AWE systems to StereoRob. It's fairly easy with the all in one chassis' and pretty cheap too. It can be done in an afternoon.
