Fisher President VIII Value?

I recently purchased a Fisher console (President VIII) and am interested in hearing what you think today's value might be. I noticed the MSRP was around $2600 (back in 1963) but not sure about current market. I am new to tube amps but excited to listen to it! All components seem to work as advertised, as far as I can tell. Sorry about the pics, I can take more if interested.

I recently read about a guy who bought a Model VI Modern at an estate sale for $1,600 plus auction fees and taxes. I'm assuming that was a good price but really don't know.
 
Thanks! Looks like I have a lot to learn about tube amps now. I live near AEA Audio (Los Gatos) and was thinking about having them look it over, clean, and test it out. Has anyone hear of them or there work, reviews look good.
 
I saw that....I am super excited about listening to this in all its glory. Do you recommend I get it serviced prior to hours of listening? The guy I got it from kept all his stuff pristine. I plugged it in and all worked, but all the dust on the tubes started to give that light burning smell so I shut it off. I just got it today by the way....thanks for all your knowledge!

Compared to Carter (TheRed1) and Larry, my knowledge is at best rudimentary. But thanks for the compliment. :beerchug:

I would suggest you not turn it on again.

At least not until someone you can trust, that truly knows about vintage tube gear, and appreciates what a rare and desirable piece this is.
At least gives it a real good look through, to make sure there are no potential issues that might immediately need attention.
 
Sounds good. I just emailed AEA Audio out of Los Gatos, CA. They seem to be reputable. Can you recommend any service shops around Monterey, CA area? Or even Tuscon AZ area (Im in the military and will be moving in December).

Sorry, I can't help with any repair recommendations for you. As I'm on the opposite coast, in northern NJ.
Perhaps another member will come along with some recommendations.
 
If you are in the military, perhaps you have some technical training?
If so, you could more than likely tackle this project yourself, quite easily with the knowledge you may already have, and the wealth of knowledge readily available here.
Just sayin'.

Hahaha... If one has enough knowledge and skill that they can fly US Navy jets, and then land them on aircraft carriers. Then I would venture to say that some minor refurbing of some vintage electronics from the 1960s, is something I'd bet you are more than capable of handling.
I myself can barely ride a bicycle, and yet some minor electronic repair/refurbing isn't totally outside my limited skill set.
Just sayin.;)
 
I have no problem doing the work myself, just dont want to jack up a nice original piece. Ill continue to research this forum and absorb all the knowledge here.
 
Johnny; The Air-Farce gets their pilots from Navy Pilots who flunk CARQUALS. They need a 10,000 ft runway to land a Cessna 150 much less anything larger. .

BRW. There have been a few nay-sayer's on AK in ref to AEA. But they are definately in the minority. If you're moving to Tucson in Jan, I'd hold off on doing anything until AFTER you move. Then either talk to Tom ISHIMOTO in SIMI Valley, Classic Audio Repair(www.repairaudio.com) in San Diego(the owner is damned near a plank owner here on AK....FRED LONGWORTH). Or of Course Dave G. The big problem you're gonna have is shipping costs. But training flights can sometimes take care of that, especially if you're a C-130 or P-3 type. F/A-18's just don't have the trunk room. (But then again, neither did the Tomcat or Phantom, Intruder, or the Prowler(EA-6B). Or find a Master Chief (or retired ETC) who knows what tubes are. There's gotta be an old, moldy Dungaree Master Chief with hashmarks all the way to the deck, hanging around a hanger, with a coffee cup in one hand cussing that the NAVY is going to hell in a handbasket. And NOAH retired after he turned down a direct commission. :D
 
Hey Larry, thanks for your service and setting Johnny straight :beerchug:

I currently fly the EA-18G (previously flew EA-6B and S-3 before that). S-3 would have been great for the cross country delivery. Anyways, Ill hold off on the resto until the move as recommended. I had the console delivered yesterday and it has to go in the garage for the two months until we move. Should I remove some of the internals and keep them in the house to keep them out of the humidity or just let it be?
