The 1080 is in the shop for a complete refurb. Tech suggested LEDs for the lights and I said no I like the original look. I'll post pictures when I get it back.

Why does it matter? I like Hitachi stuff and never went on to tell people over the internet that Hitachi made excellent stuff just for some sort of justification/reaffirmation of my own personal beliefs. This way, prices were kept low...well back then.

I still like Hitachi stuff but, I like other stuff too.

I wish a bunch of "trendsetters" (like Grenadeslio) would stop recommending Sony ES SACD players.:D

I recently bought a backup player for my Yamaha DVD S-1800 SACD player. I got an IMO good deal. No, I won't say the brand. If I look for another, I want a nice reasonable price again.

My first real stereo was a Fisher compact system, c. 1970, with the turntable attached atop the receiver, with a pair of shoebox speakers. Not great sonically, but got me hooked. After a year, I detached the crap turntable, laid a piece of plywood on top, and put an AR turntable on top of that with a nice Shure cartridge. Much better.
