Maybe I could decrease the value of those two resistors (R476 and R477) between the signal coming in and the sliding poti. That should increase the voltage at lower volume and enable the circuit to work at lower volumes... What do you think?

Thank you very much for all your help. I put the thing back together and I'm very happy with it now. Just need to replace the high filter and main direct switch as the latches are broken.
One last question: what is the MUTING button for?

Muting the output should you need to do so..

Say your cranking some tunes. Then you see a squad car pull up in front of your house. And officer is walking up to your door. Hit mute before answering the doorbell..
