Foo Fighters - TV , New Album Sonic Highways

The Foos were on Dave Letterman all week promoting their upcoming album "Sonic Highways" . The new project takes the FF to 8? different cities and takes into account the music that city is best known . Then Dave Grohl wrote a song for that cities influence .

The first city was Chicago and the first single "Something From Nothing" features Rick Nielson from Cheap Trick .

The FF had lots of guests with them on Letterman and the performances were awesome . Included were Rick Nielson and Ann and Nancy Wilson from Heart .

HBO is also showing 1 hour documentaries showing the recording process and all of the music from the city .

I have explained this clumsily but it is really worth checking out .

The performance of "Kick It Out" with Ann and Nancy Wilson was incredible. Those two girls are as good as they ever were. And I am right in between them in age. :D

If you look at the video close , I think Nancy had a little "work" done . Still beautiful and talented . Both of them .
 
I have seen fairly recent photos of Nancy and I guess I thought she looked pretty natural but who knows?

Did you read where the guy from FF (Sorry, I forgot his name) was thrilled to have Nancy playing his Flying V?

I too had Wilson fantasies, although I was prepubescent when Magic Man hit.

The FF program was really good, who can go wrong with the Chicago sound, be it the blues or something else. Also, I don't listen to modern rock much and don't know FF much. The song they played was good. Worth a future listen for this guy.
 
The first episode of Sonic Highways was excellent. Really enjoyed looking at all the vintage gear in Steve Albini's Electrical Audio Studio. Looking forward to the next stop.
 
I can't believe this thread hasn't been overtaken by those who drool all over themselves when they see vintage gear on TV.:D
 
Thought the Foos sets on Dave were great...particularly enjoyed them backing up Tony Joe White. DVR'd the first episode of "Sonic Highways" & will be watching it tonight.

I'm not a huge fan of Foo Fighters, but there's a lot I like about Grohl. He seems to have a boundless enthusiasm for shining a light on everything that he was inspired by.
Growing up in the DC area, my coming-of-age as a music lover came from the post-punk scene that evolved after Bad Brains, Minor Threat, Grohl's band Scream et al. Seeing Fugazi as a 14 year-old was the moment I realized music meant something.
Throughout the years I've seen Grohl milling around the Black Cat once or twice; I think it's cool that he still seems to have an easy relationship with a scene he eclipsed a long time ago.
I missed this show but I hope to check it out soon.
And go-go! Never listened to much but I heard plenty coming out of cars growing up. I love that it exists- and it still very much does. How many truly local genres are around any more?
