I just realized --with less than an hour left to go in the day-- that today, December 17th, is the fourth anniversary of my joining AK. I lurked for a while before that, on and off, so in some ways this might be more of a fifth anniversary, but the four years is officially certain, to the day.
Ah, what a long strange trip it's been... but not just strange. Interesting, entertaining, enlightening, occasionally something else... but somehow special enough to keep me coming back...and back...and back, for another "daily fix", for four straight years.
When I look around me at all the audio gear (and testing gear) I've accumulated during those years, and think of all that I have learned about this hobby and of the friends I've made here, and the fun and pleasure (and occasionally something else) that I've experienced, I'm moved to use this anniversary as an excuse to up my post coun- er, uh, I mean, uh, to say
THANK YOU!
to all of you folk here on AK, from Kam and the other founders on day one up to the most recent person to join and post, for making this place what it is, and for being part of my life for these four years (even though un-intentionally). I don't know of another board with such a generally good caliber of people, as well-managed as this one.
This place has changed my relationship to sound and audio, and influenced my life even when I'm not here reading and posting, in many ways.
Every time I buy gear, AK is there.
Every time I buy music, AK is there.
Every time I fix up gear, AK is there.
Every time I tweak my system, AK is there.
Every time I play music and listen, AK is there.
Every time I talk audio with others, AK is there
Even sometimes in how I deal with other people, AK is there, too.
AK is always there, in its effect on what I think, what I know, and what I only think I know;
AK is there in what I choose, and in what I don't choose.
I hope the place survives for many times four more years...
