Franken amp

bktheking

Gitter Done!
I'm going to build a franken amp, coined the Dynaha or Yamaco 3020- need some input here folks. The heart of the amplifier is none other than a cr-3020- 4seat ended up buying a parts unit and the parts were up for grabs. The chassis is a dynaco 400 that Leestereo had kicking around his house. What better an amp than a 3020.

Stay tuned- lots of chassis work to do. This is just a mock up, it won't look like this when I'm finished obviously.

Undecided, not sure what to call it.

Got the boards mounted today, some wiring done. I had to drill the heat sink to accommodate the Yamaha output sockets, they are now installed.

...though now that I think of it, if this is a CR-3020 (as Yammie made more than one 3020), I don't think I could have touched it as it is my favorite receiver! If it IS a CR-3020, was part of it beyond hope???

Well, looks like the tuner isn't being used.

Sorta like Dynaha a little better.

Yes its from a CR-3020- the unit was dropped from a pretty good distance from what I know. 4seat or Merrylander can chime in on the specifics.

:lurk: Nice repurposing job. That heatsink will definitely be overkill!

Heat sink is stupid huge- as for being able to do this, Valveglow, so long as you can read schematics and figure out to get the voltages you need for the power supply board I think it's not all that difficult to do.

Merrylander will know more about the damage - I got it after he tried to put it all back together again. I'm surmising it was dropped, based on the bent panels inside. Tuner board was completely re-made (new PCB) and populated by ML, but apparently full resurrection wasn't to be. All the knobs found their way to other units, the faceplate has some damage (not serious, but it's there), and most of the wire is AWOL. Could it have been brought back to life? Theoretically, yes... but would likely require cannibalizing another one. This one will live on in other units!

What application do you have in mind for the amp, or is the start of the long winter indoor projects?

Some progress to update on-

Sorted out the ps issues- had to install a second transformer to get my 30v to the power supply board. Installed a soft start circuit with a big honking relay. Wired up the 19v/30v/60v- getting all my regulated voltages to where they should be. Wired up the driver boards to the big caps and power supply. Also ran a fuse block for the high volt stuff. Had to remote the relay in the end, power switch wouldn't fit.
