Free Cat... Will not ship!

Carmine

...enjoys spaghetti.
Short version is: I'm not nuts about cats, but I have
a neighbor who is... how shall I say... An
idiotic-hillbilly-potential-crackhead? She used to
take good care of this cat, but lately seems to have
stopped caring about much of anything. This cat was
always at my back door because I made the mistake of
petting it once.

Well, I could deal with finding it outside at 5:30 in
the morn when I leave for work and it was in the 30s,
but I said to myself. "If I see that cat outside when
it's 5 degrees, I'm just going to take that cat inside
and find it a new home... F-that neighbor." Well, true
to my word, I did.

Problem is, I'm a bit allergic to cats, and would much
rather have a dog. Even though I'm not wild about
cats, I didn't want this thing to freeze to death. In
the cat's defense, I must say that it's really nice..
Likes people, even follows you around like a dog.

Know anybody who might want it? It's healthy (if
skinny) and litterbox trained. I am enclosing a
picture. I named it.... are you ready. lol??

Because I found it on Monday. HAHAHAHAHA!!!!

First,I deeply appreciate your sense of humanity and justice at helping this little guy.
Please check for local *private* animal rescue groups that place homeless cats in your town. Here(RI) we have Volunteer Services For Animals, but many similar outfits exist elsewhere,or Alley Cat Alllies(A national feral cat help group) will direct you to another group who can help with adoption.
Again, thank you for your kindness. Please hang in there with kitty until he gets placed in a good home.
Malcolm

In case you haven't noticed,...

...you don't adopt cats. They adopt their owners.

Seriously. I feel for ya with the allergies but I think you're doing a good thing and assuring that it goes to a good home.

Be wary of anyone wanting to take it home in a Chinese restaurant delivery truck. (just kidding)

Good for you. Maybe I'll send you the $10 if an AKer buys my amp rather than AK. Buy some of the OTC worm medicine at the grocery store and stick in its food and you'll be surprised how quickly it 'fattens-up'. Almost all cats and dogs have worms. Born with them in most cases. Or pick them up from being outdoors. Good on you.

I'd be happy to take it, but The World's Meanest Doberman isn't very "cat-friendly". Martin would be an ex-kitty in short order. But you did do a very good thing rescuing the poor thing. Good luck ! -Sandy G.

Well thank you all for the kind words, no donations nessecary! Kitty litter and cat food won't break me.

My allergies seem to come and go, sometimes I itch and sneeze, sometimes I'm fine. This cat has taken to sleeping at the foot of my bed... I don't know HOW I don't wake up sneezing my head off. If I go to someone's house who has cats, within 15 mins, I'm a wreck. I can only figure it's because MLKat hasn't been in my house for long.

Although I've always been more of a dog-person, I respect all living things. I even feel a little bad when a plant dies! I think it comes from my grandfather, who played a major role in my young life.. He was always nursing fallen young birds, runt squirrels, etc. back to heath, yet he had another side... lol, suffice to say I've always found it interesting how Vito Corleone was so gentle with his cat, yet so "ungentle" with others.

I'll look into the shelter option if none of my leads from work, websites, etc. pan out. I won't let him go to a bad home.

Here's another picture to try and win you over, perhaps a cat+vintage electronics will do it?

allergies

if you can train the cat to accept a bath once a week, it may solve your allergy problems. (there are also wipes you can buy at petsmart that remove the dander from the fur) if they are clean they will lick themselves less and expose you to less dander. also, prolonged exposure to allergens eventually makes the reaction go away. i think you were meant to get this creature, keep it, and love it. or u can put it on a bus to Little Rock.

Carmine, if the cat tolerates brushing - some enjoy it - a 'slicker' type brush will capture an amazing amount of hair off them. It is made of fine flexible wires. They also release the hair easily for discarding. Hair on the brush and in the trashcan is hair not floating around the house or getting swallowed by the cat. Also there is a type of litter made from scrap wheat that absorbs odors really well and you can flush it down the toilet.

What a sweet looking Cat! If he's sleeping on your bed then he's adopted you!

Claritin is great for allergies, the generic version is cheap too and few-no side effects :D

If your like me you may not be alergic to all cats. I'm alergic to my mom's and sister's cats, (sis has 5 or 6...) but not ours, I was mildly alergic to one of our previous cats, but as long as I washed my hands after handling it, all was well.

Again, the fur isn't what your alergic to, its the dander...

And as others have said, good for you! :thmbsp:

I am not suprised to hear that the little guy is affectionate and follows you around like a dog.

My wife and I have had cats for about forty years and have found that while most female cats are very affectionate ...... On average it has been the males we have had that have been the most affectionate and sociable.

That said, we have only ever met one cat we might have not been able to come to terms with. We visited a lady one night to sign some papers regarding a house we were buying. She came to the door and said "Don't try to pet the cat he's a complete psycho and he WILL attack you if you try and pet him ! During the entire time we were there he growled/howled and hissed at us.

The lady said "He's a complete embarrassment to us and he's been like that since he was a kitten. He's fine with my husband and I but he simply will not tolerate a stranger in the house.

LOL as my wife and I walked down the walk to the car we could hear Psychokitty screaming obscenities at our backs.

Do those air purifiers work for people with cat allergies (like me)? The "Ionic Breeze" and all that...?

They definitly help. My mom runs one for a day befor I come over, or by the time I leave I'm trashed.

The ones that work the best are the ones that move the largest volume of air. And these are definitely NOT the expensive ones. Those are all marketing hype. Get one from Lowe's or Home Depot. They move more air. And you can get activated charcol to put in front of the filter media to help, if you want. After all, you are really only wanting to filter out the dander/hair from the cat. Doesn't need to be 'ionized' to work as the dander/hair is large enough to be easily filtered. You want volume of air moved.

You might also want to log on to Consumer Reports website and read what they have to say. While they aren't the end-all and be-all on anything, they do a credible job of comparison.

I'm not a big cat fan but I saw a bad thing today.

I saw a cat walk up our drivethru alley, 5 minutes later I look up the alley and I see this cat flip flopping around in the snow at the end of the alley, I think awww that's cute it's playing in the snow. Then it stops and is very still, I think **** and I walk up the alley and yes someone ran over the poor cat, it was flip flopping in agony not playing :sigh: Lots of blood, someone hit it in the street and it made to our alley. I felt pretty choked up about it as I bagged it up, it had a collar so it wasn' a stray :worried:

There are some bad folks in the world to just hit an animal with their car and leave like that

Thor- That's awful. Every time I see a cat or a dog layin' dead on the side of the road, I think how awful that must be-to die alone, frightrened, in agony.Hopefully, they'll go quickly & not suffer very long. And then I think of the family or the kid that will be frantic when their special friend doesn't come home tonight-and never will again. My pal the vet has been known to stop in traffic & put an animal down that's been hit & is hopeless. I've been with him a time or 2 when that's happened. Of course, most of the time when one gets hit it's not on purpose, but the result is no less tragic.-Sandy G.
