Hey All
I got lazy Friday, so I'm just now getting her up and running.
No big surprises yet. Still trying to get the remote figured out.
The tubes all seem to be performing well. Russian 6n8s, I'm not familiar with them. The Internet don't seem to have a very high opinion of them but I guess it's a starting point.
The fit and finish are as good as any schitt equipment I've bought. Packaging is very secure and very well designed.
The components of the set up as follows.
Eico hf 87 power amp
Denon tu 850 tuner
Pioneer dv 37 dvd player
Schitt sys (to switch between cd players)
Yamaha cd c 600 cd player
Vpi scout 1.1 turntable
Bottlehead phono pre amp
Tannoy cheviot speakers
And of course Snerp's interconnects
None of my equipment at this point uses the balanced interconnects ,so that is why I'm using the sys to switch between the two cd players.
So far I've been sticking with the tube gain option. So far I'm very pleased with my purchase. Very quiet, clean sound that brings parts of the material I hadn't heard before.
I do have some concerns. Woody said he was needing a socket saver to raise the tube out of the pre amp cabinet on his Saga.that would be a big pain considering that Freya has 4.
The on/off switch in the back is going to be a pain,but no biggie I'm already doing that with the Eico.
So no deal breakers so far. I will have to do some more listening with the passive/jfet buffer to get a more in depth feel.
Also I'll probably be bouncing over to some solid state power down the road. Because I can ,and the Tannoy's probably would like a little more power.I seem to be running out of footfeet in passive/jfet modes.
That's all I got right now. I know I don't have the flowery lingo. The Freya is a step in the right direction for my setups. Thx Eric

Haven't done any rollin yet ,but they are cheaper by alot. To be fair probably tons of them out there.
I wasn't offended by them at all. But I probably will search out some nos tubes to try.
We'll see what Woody gets from them for replacement for his defective one. I just figured it would come with current production 6sn7 tubes of some kind. Again they're a good starting point. Eric

I like vintage gear — my preamp is from 2007.
Honestly... I'm running a $100 Shuguang Black Treasure CV-181 tube and if they give me an option I'd prefer a credit toward a future purchase. I still haven't heard back... need to email them again.

To be clear that is only cause my Black Treasure tube has a wider ceramic base that just BARELY fits in the opening and the glass of the tube envelope bottoms out on the cover. It works fine... just bugs me aesthetically and that's why I'm getting that socket saver.
Unless you're planning on dropping $400 on black Treasure tubes for the $650 Freya it shouldn't be an issue.

I wish Schiit products had front mounted on/off switches but they don't. I solved that problem with an APC G5 rack power filter which turns my entire system on and off sequentially.
