Games from the good old days :)

The Oregon Trail, first encountered on an Apple II, ca. 1979. This is the only computer/video game I've ever liked enough to play more than once. Played it a lot, in fact. I liked it so well that I tracked down & installed versions that run on my XP and W7 machines.

I first started to get into home video games with the SEGA Mega Drive (Genesis) in the very late 80's. Used to purchase a few games every week, some favs were Strider,Streets Of Rage,Mickey Mouse-Castle Of Illusion,Sonic,Hellfire, and not forgettin' of-course the classic SEGA RPG's such as Phantasy Star 1-3,Shining Force 1-2,and Landstalker... The latter was my all time fav RPG... just incredible.
Sadly, like everything else though that becomes popular/more mainstream... quality dropped. In other words, more and more crap games programmed/designed by talentless folks were produced for it,therefore kinda flooded the market. In other words, you can't even beat the Japanese for quality video games either.

Anyway,a pic of some of my old SEGA Mega Drive (Genesis) games. Also, have hundreds more, and not just on Sega Mega Drive... Nintendo were great too!

Impressive for sure, Daunia!

Cheers,Rome. I have hundreds more. The end of my gaming days ended with the Sony PS2. Up until then I owned every console, even the Sega Mega CD which I've still got. Fav game for that one was "Snatcher" By Konami... They fetch decent money nowadays on Ebay.

Reading the title I thought this would be about games outside, like tag, Red Rover, red light/green light, Mother may I.

I was fascinated by Pong though.

I did not know any of the home games or systems.

Space invaders, followed by Asteroids, followed by Defender consumed a lot of my free time and quarters. I got pretty good at the latter two, competing for recorded top score among other patrons of my favorite club at the time. That "Top 10" scoring record, no doubt, raked in a lot more money into the machines than would have otherwise been the case.

While we had a Colecovision with all of the really popular games (Pitfall, Krull, Berserk), I have my best memories in text-parser DOS games. :nerd:
I spent countless hours playing all of the collections from Sierra, such as Quest for Glory, Space Quest, King's Quest, Leisure Suit Larry, Police Quest, etc.

I still have most of them and run them on an emulator. Great stuff!

Oh wow, I want to move in ;)

Yes Daunia, that's wow worthy ! I just traded off a Frogger game like your Donkey Kong.

I want to play Tempest on an arcade machine badly ! I hear they're supposed to open an old style arcade here around town somewhere ?

I used to love 'Galaga' or 'Galaxian' - a table top video game, so it post-dates most of the games mentioned here.

I am surprised Pac-Man hasn't been mentioned. You could find an arcade game at just about any store you visited back then.

Another good game that you can get on the SNES is World Heroes 2! :D
Man, spent a lot of coin playing this one too.

Fave SNES beat 'em up was Street Fighter 2,used to beat everyone in the arcades at Weston-Super-Mare back around 1990. Guile or Ryu were the best :thmbsp:

Owned a Japanese SNK NEO GEO with Samurai Spirits/Showdown (spraying blood intact),but sold it to a mate years back... often regretted it!

Ahhh Beatnik!

Gotta tell my son & grandson 'bout this one! There used to be competitions at some local Gamestops, but that started. My son made it to the final one year playing Madden football!

Yea Daunia!

I have that SF2 on SNES as well & it is good.

Man, those were the days when I first learned how to play SF with little kids not being able to come up to my first belt buckle tearing me up with Ken & RYU! :D :D

But at one store that's long gone now called Minyards on Live Oak, I would stop in there & some kids would whisper "There he comes"! :D

I had a rep by then using Blanka. I was a mean fighter & gave them all some heat! :thmbsp:

Good times & memories for sure for this old man!
