Garrard 301 Turntable - Question

How do you remove the platter from a Garrard 301 turntable. I would like to do this for shipping purposes.

I'm also removing the tonearm.

Maybe a 2 person thing. It should just lift off of the spindle, but they do get stuck.
Anyway with some fingers under the edge pulling up a little, other person raps the spindle with a plastic mallet or just a hammer with a piece of wood on the spindle. Whatever hits the spindle needs to be softer than the spindle.
In some cases a little penetrating oil may help or some gentle heat on the platter making sure to not heat the spindle.

Go to VinylEngine, download the service manual and read. Google "garrard 301 platter removal" and it will take you there.
So much info available about the 301.
Should also find info regarding packing and shipping. I think the motor needs to be secured.

Yes, the motor must be secured. It has a brace for shipping. There are two screws that must be tightened.
When you remove the platter, you should see the two screw-heads, on my 401 they were painted red.

Thank you all for the answers. I'm lucky to have the original manual which explained about locking down the motor and top of the cabinet.
