Garrard 401

I think that the plinth you are referring to is black welsh slate. I've only seen pics but I wish that I had the opportunity to take a listen. The 401 is really a wonderful TT. I'm glad that I got mine and replinthed it. :yes:

Thanks guys. It was fun building it and I'm still enjoying spinning discs on her. The only real difference now is the cartridge which is a Zyx airy 3.
 
Beautiful... really beautiful! If that sounds half as good as it looks, you're floating somewhere in audio bliss :music: , for sure. That TT is an inspiration and a motivation for any DIY-minded audio nut! :thmbsp:

Getting a Garrard is high up on my wish-list, for sure. I'd like the 301 with strobe markings like your 401, but will take any affordable one of either model (301, 401) that I can find. In the meantime, I'm going to try a massive plinth and upgrades approach with a Dual; sort of a "poor man's Garrard", I hope.
 
Was directed to this post from another thread. WOW, Superb craftsmanship. I real work of art. Question. You mention the table is "tweaked". Other than the custom plinth have you made any modification to the TT itself?

BTW, don't hate me if I do a variation on your plinth for my "next turntable". After all imitation is the best for of flattery right?

It has been a while since I did that but everything was taken apart, cleaned, lubed and aligned. I've now put in a new bearing/thrustplate as well.

Please feel free to copy all that you want. :yes:

I read the part about the 60Hz pulley, but is that a 60Hz platter with the strobes or the UK 50Hz version? Do you use the strobe, or just use an aftermarket strobe ring?

I love the 401 and it'll take a while to save up for a purchase but I so enjoy looking at other peoples plinths and ideas regarding these tables. Something about the 401, 301 and Thorens TD124; they really exude class and style.

Pictures of nice TT's are always welcome!
