Ah damn, thats a bummer. I truly enjoyed his playing. (and still will) There was a period there, I was in a crappy job, I listened to him almost every day at work.

I just heard this from an acquaintance abroad. It came as a bit of a shock; I was only a night or two ago listening to a Gary Moore performance recorded @ Hammersmith Odeon, 1984. He was just 58 years old. :tears:

Let's add another video tribute, this from the great Lizzy Tour of 1978, Sydney:

I've heard of him, but never realized he was in Thin Lizzy. 58 is way too young.
RIP..

May he rest in peace. I was quite fortunate to hear him play at a club in Melbourne, Australia years ago. He tore the roof off the place. In my humble opinion, his chops were right up there amongst the greats. 58 is way too young an age to lose someone with his ability.

R.I.P Gary Moore

Wow, this is a total shock to say the least.

Former Thin Lizzy guitarist Gary Moore, 58, passed away Sunday (Feb. 6), according to the Irish Times, which offered several details surrounding his untimely death.

Moore was found dead inside his room at the luxury Kempinski Resort Hotel in Estepona, a town in Southern Spain's Costa del Sol. 'The Loner' performer was reported to have been on holiday at the hotel. A spokesman for the British Foreign Office heard news of the Irish entertainer's passing and is prepared to offer support. "We are aware of the death of a British national in Estepona," the spokesman said. "We stand ready to offer consular assistance."

With more than 15 solo studio albums and just as many with hard rock band Thin Lizzy, Gary Moore's lauded career and success was one aspiring guitarist's hoped to one day achieve. Fans as well as his peers were in tune with his consistent musicianship.

Moore's Thin Lizzy bandmates paid tribute to the fallen rocker at an event following his death, labeling him a "great player and great guy." Thin Lizzy founding member Brian Downey was deeply saddened to learn of his friend's death. "I am in total shock," he said. "He will always be in my thoughts and prayers and I just can't believe he is gone."

He joined Thin Lizzy in 1973, after guitarist Eric Bell's departure but only played with the band for four months. Four years later, Moore returned to the group, playing on their 'Black Rose' album. Some of the band's most recognized tunes include' Whiskey in a Jar' and 'The Boys Are Back in Town.'

WOW! I am a big fan of his and I was just on youtube watching his amazing playing a few nites ago. I have been a fan of his since I was a teenager back in the late 70's. Total shock to say the least.: Gonna break out some of his vinyl now. Very under rated and never got the praise that he deserved, atleast here in the states. ( . RIP Gary :tears: .

Oh my God. Shocking RIP Gary Moore. I'll always know him as the guitarist that had to play all parts of Black Rose. Damn!

Gary was something of a complicated character who seemed to often leave a bit of "history" in his wake. But the tone, that tone and the sustain he'd coax from his instruments, especially the Peter Green Les Paul...oh my.

Wow, what a shock! I was just watching some of his concert footage on YouTube last night. Look up his performance of Hendrix's Red House - The guy had it in his blood!
