Genesis 1 W/cone in center of woofer? Looks modded?

Picked these up today at a thrift store, (well my dad did after scouting em out for me lol, I love that man so much) and upon doing some research on them when I got them home, I couldn't find any that have a woofer similar to mine. Anyone ever seen one like this or know the pros/cons of the horn?

Just got em hooked up, it's late so I'll have to do some quiet listening, I'll update tomorrow when I can really test em! I'm curious what these inverted tweeters are going to sound like.

Hopefully my pics post, I've only made one thread on here before.

That “horn” in the center of the woofer is a whizzer cone. That’s a fullrange driver and the whizzer cone is there to help extend/disperse the high frequencies of that driver. So most likely not the original woofer.

Ok got one pulled, they were replaced with these Quam drivers. I know nothing about them, they any good?

Those are the kind of speakers which are usually behind those perforated round off white metal grills, built into the ceilings of buildings such as malls, stores, hotels, schools, airports, etc. It's admirable Quam, who have been in business since the early radio days still make speakers in Chicago to this day, but those are definitely not designed with the same goals in mind as a hi-fi speaker.

Do they both have those QUAM drivers with the whizzer cone?
Both speaker cabinets should have the same set of equipment (woofers, tweeters, crossovers, etc)
or else they will not be a matched pair, and will not sound the same.

Yes they both have the same drivers. Well i suppose they arent going to be as quality as i had hoped having PA speakers in them. Maybe ill find something worth throwing in there eventually, gonna listen to them for a bit just to see how they sound. Will update after i hear them for a bit

Well thats dissapointing. Wonder why they even put those in there.

Well, you only paid $10 for them - so it wasn't a huge loss.
So, how do they SOUND?
Thats always the important issue ...

Honestly, not bad at all. The tweeters are really pronounced and clear. Woofers sound a litle dull but i guess thats to be expected being PA speakers but far better than you would thinking knowing that they are. Gonna hook up my other speakers and do a side by side comparison
