Genesis 1 W/cone in center of woofer? Looks modded?

Probably because they had them, and they fit. Given that the speakers ended up being donated, I can't imagine the original owner saw a lot of value in them.
Good point. some people just arent concerned with that kind of stuff i suppose. Honestly for a PA speaker they arent terrible, they sound better than my old sonys, but not as good as my Technics made MCS's

Why do you call them PA speakers?
They look like your basic 2 way stereo speakers

Maybe PA speakers isnt the right term and a little harsh. After pulling out the driver i found its made by Quam, who makes ceiling speakers and other commercial speakers.
Its definetly not the best term for them because they sound quite quality and clear, after learning about the company PA is just what comes to mind lol. Eventually i think ill order the stock woofers for them, that will be the real test of how good these ones are.
All in all, im pretty happy with my purchase, theyre definetly an upgrade from what i had and at the very least will keep me jamming while i wait for the foam for my advents

My previous speakers were Sony SS-U620AV's that looked beautiful, but left a lot to be desired from their sound, didnt realize quite how poor those were until directly comparing them to these genesis'

Heres what they were replaced with, they definetly arent "cheap" replacements

There are plenty of eight inch EPI/Epicure/Genesis/Reynolds Advance woofers out there, and essentially they are all the same - cosmetics differ (and some of the Epicures have butyl surrounds mounted on top of the gasket, and these may sound different, though they seem to have used them interchangeably). I suspect Boston Acoustics are probably just about the same also, and Burhoes might, too, though any Burhoe driver is worth more to Burhoe owners than to anyone else.
All of these companies share the same DNA, and EPI and Epicure are actually the same company. The rest were started by alumni (as was Human), using more or less the same design philosophy.
Human has a good reputation and does a real service in making so much information available, but his drivers are more expensive than used ones. Obviously.

Well, those Quam 8" speaker drivers were primarily made for commercial ceiling speakers- which, in a way, are a "public address" or PA speaker type.

So, that's not really a wrong naming...

However, in that enclosure- they are not going to have nearly the same bass output as the original EPI/Genesis "module" type woofer. The suspension on the Quam is a lot stiffer than the original woofer, and the cone is a lot lighter weight- which will make for prodigious midrange output, but not much for bass...

Regards,
Gordon.

When i think PA speakers i think that tinny school speaker noise, these at least sound good. They definetly put out much bass
I have them paired with my MCS' right now which are really bassy, they compliment each other well, i also have a 16' sub im gonna try with it tommorow. Theyll be fun to listen to for a while

Sound not noise* lol

So last night i couldnt sleep so i put on Coltrane and Hartman and smoked a little giggle bush and it was the best listening experience ive ever had. It was like they were right in front of me. I think whoever put those Quams in the cab may have actually had a plan with them and had them stacked on something a little heavier on the bass which is what i did. Maybe im wrong, but there is some magic to these. It makes me even more curious what the difference with the OG drivers would be.
Im very happy with them and if you ever get a chance to set some speakers up like this i recommend it. Wish i had room to put all 4 at the same height but as of now i just dont so stacked will have to do

Seems to me you are going about it the right way, by actually listening to them, rather than just throwing money and effort into restoring them. I suspect at some point you may decide to get the correct woofers, but for now, why argue with success?

No other way to know if I like em or not without spending time listening to them lol. I likely will eventually get the correct woofers so i at least have the original drivers on hand. I may not even put them in unless I want to sell them at some point, but I like having older "complete" gear. But as of now they sound fantastic to my ears and I have a few projects ahead of them anyways.

In the next couple of days I'll probably make a thread about my Electro-Voice EV6Bs and see what people have to say about them. The surrounds (which I had a pretty hard time finding some with the proper measurements) should be here tomorrow. I haven't been able to find much info on them, just on their predecessor model, the regular ol' EV6's. Probably won't get to actually start refoaming then for a while now due to a family emergency situation that is ongoing.

Here's those beauties, just got em out of my car an inside after a pretty hectic week.PXL_20220826_201326109.jpg PXL_20220826_201349125.MP.jpg PXL_20220826_201349125.MP.jpg

I have both grills and the missing driver out of the one is sitting on the counter behind them* besides the foam they're pretty minty

Picked these up today at a thrift store, (well my dad did after scouting em out for me lol, I love that man so much) and upon doing some research on them when I got them home, I couldn't find any that have a woofer similar to mine. Anyone ever seen one like this or know the pros/cons of the horn?

Just got em hooked up, it's late so I'll have to do some quiet listening, I'll update tomorrow when I can really test em! I'm curious what these inverted tweeters are going to sound like.

Hopefully my pics post, I've only made one thread on here before.

I need badges too if anyone has a bunch sitting around (seems unlikely).

Maybe a resin casting can be made from a loaner example?

Claaaasic scenario of '' rotted foam on da woofer'' ?... let's put these one in I have layin' aroun'...

I have been lucky sometimes asking ze question.. '' do you have the old woofers... layin' aroun' ?
...Yeah... .. but why would you want them ? they are busted Bud.. ?

I'd even be willing to take mine off and send it to them to make a cast.

Not sure how I missed these after my earlier searches, but DIY is hopefully not necessary - Human Speakers appears to sell them. I ordered some and can report on how they turned out. I don't expect any problem since my past dealings with the company/owner/products have been excellent.

I missed those as well, awesome! definetly let me know how they are. For 7 bucks i may just order one before hearing back though. I love that a company is out there making these kinds of parts available

I know I’m late to the party here. I got a pair of these about the time you made this post. These little things sound incredible, I just love them. I didn’t get them cheap tho. These do have some magic to them
