Genesis Model 44

Not cheap, just thrifty..
There is a pair of these on craigslist near me, and they peaked my interest. The problem is, I can't find much info on them at all. Anyone ever herd of Genesis, are they worth looking into?

Give them a listen.. I had a nice pair a few years ago but I quickly sold them. I wasn't a fan of this model sonic wise.. I had 210 and II before and loved their sound.

Try them out

I owned Genesis I's at some point. Their claim to fame was flat frequency response and had a print out of the response graph on the box. They sounded good but fit and finish was nowhere near the quality of other brands. I remember the tweeters were mounted on particle board that was so unevenly cut. The tweeters would easily blow if you over powered them.

It has been so long since I owned the Genesis 44's , I don't remember the differences . What made you like the Genesis 210's and not the 44's ? Thanks

I know that was the case with the 44's I had . I think the frequency crossover was too low and Genesis was asking too much of the tweeters as far as trying to cover too much of the lower frequencies .

The store I worked at sold a ton of Genesis speakers. My thought was always that for the person looking for a great jazz and classical speaker, Genesis fit the bill in spades. Flat response, decent base and a a very good mid range. I actually liked the 210's more than most speakers we carried because the bass was so clean and not bloated. My co-worker at the time had a pair of 210's powered by a Luxman L480 which sounded very nice indeed.

What did I go with - JBL L112's - I drank the cool aid. No doubt a great speaker but in a bedroom system it was overkill especially powered by a Luxman lx104 integrated amp. No wonder my wife says I'm deaf.

I am still using a pair of 210's with a Pioneer SX-1250 and it is quite a combo as well . I do like to use the loudness button with them though to help in the bass department .

To me the 44's did not sound as musical as say the 210 or II. The 44 sounded a bit sterile and lifeless and imo lacked the Genesis sound characteristics I've heard in their earlier lines.

The best model I've heard were the III+. The model which I think every music lover should own at some point in their journey is the II. Deep bass, great high's and womens vocals sound smooth and detailed.

I always thought the build quality wasn't as good on the 44's as the 210's either . I would love to hear a pair of 410's or 66's .

Just as an aside, Genesis 44s were what got me started in a career designing speakers. I was in school to be a computer engineer and my roommate had a pair (along with Adcom separates, Rega TT, and a Yamaha cassette) and got me started on the audio path.

I've got a pair of 2s, which are in my main system. They have booted more than a few to the curb.

Genesis always seemed like a good value speaker but I remember they tried to go more upscale with nicer veneer cabinets and more angular shapes in the later models that did'nt seem to catch on, possibly losing that value positioning and entering into a market with much more competition.
