Going Digital!

Well Byron i`m joining you in this digital madness. I just ordered the Lampazator Amber, the 7 was just out of my reach. Entering this domain is mostly new to me but the DSD downloads that i have heard at shows are so close to what i remember of master tapes and the realism felt from DSD cannot be denied.

I`m excited to be on this new adventure.:thmbsp:

Cool! Let us know when you get the new Lampazator. I am really interested on what your thoughts will be on it.

Great move on the Amber, as I've heard through several of my friends in the audio industry that Lampi is one of those companies that are doing DACs a great deal of justice and then some........, so I'm looking forward to hearing your impression on said device as well.

Will do. It`s going to take about 30 days as they are hand built when you order. I now feel like a 10 yr. waiting for Christmas to come.

I have never heard the Amber but i have heard the 4 and 7 and if the Amber has even a little bit of their blood line i`m sure that i will be happy.

I just placed the order yesterday so it`s going to be about 30 days before she arrives.

That's a great purchase! I've listened to the Level 7 with the PSU as well as the Amber. My buddy still has the 7/PSU.

I was on the fence about owning a DAC, especially being a vinyl guy...PCM really didn't wow me, my Musical Fidelity was just as good, but after going to my friends house during a PS Audio DSD DAC and Level 7 DAC shootout I was sold! I saw DSD as something really new for vinyl heads. To my ears, the digital edge of PCM, was gone with DSD and was so clear and transparent and seem to sound more like vinyl to my ears. Another buddy has a $15k Levinson CDP that sounds dam good. It's analog sounding and has the ability to dig a lot of stuff off RedBook you just don't hear with lesser CDP's. But at $15k !!!??? A much cheaper DSD Dac can do the same thing. You'd best believe, if I get to the point where I'm looking for a upgrade..especially at the price a basic Amber cost, that's the way I'd go if I didn't go with iFI's new DAC, the pro. But if I'm spending $5k....it's the AMR 777 DAC! Please keep in mind, Lampizator DAC's are a little qwerky at times.

Did I tell you, with the Lampizator DAC's , you have some of the best customer service around..any place? My buddy had an issue with his Level 7. The U.S. Distributor couldn't find a problem with it. So he sent it to Poland to the engineer who made it. Lukasz Ficus! Well he couldn't find a problem either...so he jumped on a flight to St. Louis to have a listen in my friends system. Of course my friend got permission from Lukasa to invite a few of us over, and we turned it into a party. We had two Lampizator DACs/ systems set up..one upstairs and one down stairs and we had a great time picking Lukasz brain about electronics. And I can tell you....Lukasz's gear is pretty much stuff he has made. He says nothing special. I think it's because he modded it all. But he did say the only thing in his rig that he has purchased because it's really great, is Nordost Cables. He says he loves their cables.

Keep us posted on your new purchase!

I've heard the 7 and Amber back to back....the 7 has more juice...a bigger sound, but every thing else is still there. The associated gear was "The Dude" preamp! and CODA mono amps, and some Huge Legacy speakers with Clarus Climson Cables...so it was a huge system. No problem hearing anything with such a large sound. Did you order any upgrades?

After talking to Fred the US importer i went with the caps, Fred was super helpful and we are going to meet at the Newport Show in a couple of weeks.

This is mostly a new area for me but after hearing DSD and the realism that DSD brings it was a no brainer, DSD is the real deal.

Man...you are so right! All my computer music is Played back is DSD128. I love it! The cap upgrade is a great option! Congrats!

Once you get use to your system, be sure to get the Fidelzer optimizer. I've heard all the GoldenEar speakers and my dealer has the new ones in as well. I will hear those this Saturday when I go to his home. He uses A Mac and Bel Canto DACs. And I can tell you, those GoldenEar speakers with all the transparency they bring to the table are going to love the Amber DAC! Dave, you are going to have a knockout system with the Line Magnetic amp, Lampi DAC and GoldenEar speakers!

Just so you'd know, Triode Wire Labs makes a power cord for digital now! I would have purchased one, but my DAC doesn't use those big power cords.
But within a few months, I will be purchasing. HD Plex Liner PSU....I may purchase one for it.

Keep us posted on the Amber DAC.

Agree! Never figured I'd enjoy digital like I do vinyl but DSD128 (SDM5,6) has me there in a big way.

Good move on the Lampi, looking forward to hearing how it works out for you. If/when I move up the DAC food-chain from the Concero HD it will be with a 100% DSD focus and it doesn't get more focused than the only DSD approach taken by Lampizator. PCM can be just wonderful now for me...as long as it hits the DAC as DSD128 (or above? :)).

Actually, based on what I've heard from exaSound doing DSD, I'm finding myself very tempted by their new stripped-down e12. I am going to have a listen to this one, might be a great place to settle in for while on my way to a Lampi big 7.

I was even giving this one some thought. http://www.lampizatorna.com/dsd-dac/

Keep us posted on the Amber DAC.

I will check out the power cord thanks as the Amber does not come with a cord. I looked up the fidelzer and that is for PC i have a Mac. I think that my system will sound really good, i have my amp really dialed in with the combination of tubes that i`m using, the Amber should be the icing on the cake. I`m going to the Newport Show in a couple of weekends, last year i really liked the Emerald Physics speakers and now they have another model with a passive cross-over so i was going to give that speaker a listen but in reality i really like the GoldenEars, otherwise i`m going to look for some show specials on cables and power cords and LP`s.

I gave it consideration but at $3600 it was out of my current budget vs the Amber at $2250.

I feel ya on that one! But still, your getting a special product in the Lampi! If it's like any thing I've heard from the Amber, you will be very satisfied once she is matched with the right cables and run in.

I just got the official conformation that Poland took the order:yes:, now it`s wait time:smoke: which i do not mind considering what i`m getting.

Any recommendations on cables without breaking the bank?

Well the iFI Micro DSD DAC once it's run in is warm natured, especially with my tubed gear, so I decided I needed a little Silver/Copper mix. So I listened to a Wireworld RCA cable from the DAC to the preamp and couldn't go without it...as all my cables, they are crystal Copper or Crystal Silver., with the speaker cables being Cryoed copper, both much better than OFC, as you already know being in the business. I'm using Wireworld Silver Eclipes RCA's, but they are $750 for a meter.

From what I've heard from Bob over at AudioShark.com, Triode Pete's Cryod copper RCA's are a very good bargain.

Another very good option for USB is Nuetral Cables. I'm using their entry level cable now and just sent a note to the manufacturer about up grading to the next model up. So I'm going to order the Passion. It's a very great cable.

You might want to check with Oscar for great USB cables. When he purchased his IFI Micro and iUSBPower supply, he did a very extensive research on some of the best USB cables and posted his findings. In this thread...in fact the Nuetral Cable was one of the ones he found....so check with him...I'm sure he will chime in.

From what I've been told......., you're definitely in for a treat, once again you've made a very wise investment in your system.

Go 4 it, and never look back.

Thanks Oscar. Are the USB cables that Byron gave me the link to the same one that you recommend? He mentioned that you listened to several. Thanks.
