Going Digital!

You guy`s are having all of the fun. Hopefully in a couple of weeks i`ll be joining in.

And I for one, am quite certain you'll smiling from ear to ear once you begin to realize just how musical these devices seriously are for the amount paid - once again I can't speak for anyone else........., but when it's time to upgrade?, I'll be to their slightly more upscaled model called the Pro.

In the meantime, we shall be waiting your findings.

I don't think things have changed much with ver-20 but here is the instructions for ver-19.

http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=82074.0

It's worth noting that Jriver uses their 'DSP engine' to get to DSD128 meaning it's going through a PCM stage. Perfectly fine (IMO) if you are starting with PCM anyway but if you have a native DSD64 file I'd just play it bit-perfect - don't think it's such a great idea to go from DSD>PCM>DSD just to get to DSD128.

Just my opinion though - try it both ways and draw you own conclusions - they are just different shades of good sounding. :)

FWIW....I'm listening to my very first 24/192 download:banana: I've joined the computer audio revolution:D.

Lots more experimenting to do yet because I have no idea if I like this or not. I know this file is an upsampled version of the original, a wonderful album and recording.

Cantate Domino, Oscar's Motet Choir
Torsten Nilsson, Conductor
Alf Linder, organ
Marianne Mellnas, soprano
Proprius PR 7762
Producer: Jacob Boethius
Recording Engineer: Bertil Alving
Recording Equipment: Revox A77 and two Pearl TC4 microphones
Date: 1976
Format: Analog

I chose 24/192 initially to test my gear and see if it is working, yep it is. Proper readout and everything. I know this album very well and have a copy of the remastered Redbook CD and the vinyl version. Sounds a little bright compared to to my audio memory of this recording.

It will be very interesting to hear the comparison.
Maybe then convert to DSD......lots to learn, lots to learn but I'm confident I'll get there. :thmbsp: This thread is wonderful stuff!!

Which external CD drive are most using? I see many on Amazon in the $20-40 range. Someone on CA posted about a very good one for ripping CD`s on Amazon but i cannot find that post. Thanks.

Congrats! Try DSD 128. Its 1bit and at a much high sample that Hi Rez PCM.

Hi guys,

As I wrote Byron a few minutes ago, can any of you recommend say a 15 - 20" monitor that I can use in my living room where I'm able to use it to connect my M Mini and JRemote and have my wife carry it out afterwards?, as I'm having trouble in using the remote once I disconnect the mini from the television in our bedroom and transport everything into the other room.

It's as if the JRemote doesn't see anything, and isn't allowing JRiver to function outside of my standard Apple Remote, but is then playing everything in DXD/384, it doesn't have to be state of the art, and I'd like to keep it under say $250, any recommendations would suffice?.

TIA!.

Well enginedr, Byron, and Billfort,

I've just crawled back into my bedroom after a very brief, but entertaining experience as it relates to DSD - and I'm happy to say it's a sound much like some have stated here as having a very liquid type of texture to its sound that's more akin to vinyl then anything I've owned/heard short of a $6.500 turntable with all the fixings.

I'm hearing more transparency, better separation of each/every note as if it's placed inside their own space surrounded by a natural sense of enhancement added as a means of reaching ones very core and now I fully understand why a friend of mine whom is in the audio industry is so high on the iDSD and Lampi DACs doing DSD - because it's obvious that both are voiced uniquely enough to set each apart from the norm - and here I'm referring to hearing/feeling a sense of " truthfulness " and " correctness " I've only encounter in much more expensive gear, so it's quite shocking to have it available to the masses at these prices, while it seems are increasing as I type this very letter.

Byron............, as hearing is believing and now that's I've, I can say in all honesty I've never heard/felt a CD Player reproduce music as naturally as these devices, and here I was thinking you guys had found a batch of some form of properly aged hash or opium - yet I must now apologize publicly for my doubts as I now know in my very being there's no going back......., not that I had much of a choice or intend, but this **** is the bomb and then some.

You simply can't hear, or your system isn't resolving enough to emphasize said naturalness or purity, so maybe it's time to better certain components as this is the future and lest you enjoy being left behind?, it's time to acknowledge that a change is around the bend.

It's about time Oscar! :) I am glad that you are up and running in DSD mode and enjoying it. I will never buy another "boat anchor" CD player ever again. They cannot touch what can be done with a DSD capable DAC and software.

Amen Lee Harvey, Amen.

It took me awhile........, but it's a beautiful ride to which I couldn't resist.

Thank you! That`s what i needed.:thmbsp:

I had to follow my own lead on this one and just got one finished in black, while I don't own a single cd - it'd come in handy when I can borrow a few from friends:

That's me too. Have a pretty nice CD/SACD player (Sony SCD-777ES) which got extremely nice with an add-on AudioNote DAC for PCM. It sits idle now and I'm about to pull it out of my room - it just isn't in the same league as computer based streaming, the right software and a decent DSD DAC.
