good small RCA plugs ?

Does anyone make a good quality small diameter RCA plug? I have a couple things with really tight panel jack groupings and most of my cables have fairly fat plugs.

I have had NO success finding a modern RCA plug that will allow side by side use in the PAS-3. Here are some of the offenders. Vampire, Eichman, Neutrik NF2C-B2, Ultraplate (don't remember the manufacturer), the ones on Blue Jean Cables, WBTs. None, nada, zilch, zero will fit side by side in the PAS. I stopped using mine for that very reason. You can get a new jack board from Tubes4HiFi when he reopens mid April. His are more widely speed. Good Luck

Cardas mades some thin plugs. You should be able to find data sheets to check.

However, they require very thin wire.
Cardas does make other plugs that I think have the same barrel diameter though.

Another option is to just get new jacks. You can get fairly decent gold plated jacks that fit in most situations from a variety of sources for about $3 per pair, anything less and I wouldn't bother.

Thin RCA plugs

I take it you are talking about the RCA plug that goes on the cable, and not the RCA jack which is mounted on the chassis? I found these to work great.

While I don't know the actual diameter of those plugs suggested. Some of the ones I tried appeared as slim as the ones pictured and were still too fat. I just measured the Kimber Ultraplates. 0.43 in. They are just barely too fat so maybe the ones above at 0.41 just might fit. Good find!

Thinnest Cardas are .45", so no go. Bummer, they are very high quality.

Yeah the switchcraft connectors are really skinny but they do fit really tight - too tight for me.

Yes, I meant the end that goes on the cable, not the socket on the panel. I'll check out the BTX ones and the Switchcraft ones, they look like they might do the job. The ones I have now are nice locking connectors, but they're just too fat to fit properly. I do have one set of video cables from my DVD player that just barely fit, and the calipers check the fattest part of the connector in at .046" so thats my absolute max.

I built a new input panel for the PAS, but its stock dimensions. I've seen replacement ones available with more spacing, but it loses 2 inputs normally, and I'd kind of rather not give them up. I found a template somewhere that I used to drill out a phenolic board to mount the sockets on, and the sockets themselves are in the mail but its no roomier than the stock setup at all.

Thanks for the connector suggestions. I'll pick some up along with some cable and make myself some good interconnects to tie all this stuff together.

I'll gladly recommend the switchcraft RCA connectors. Easy to solder to, makes a good connection, fits vintage gear, well-made and inexpensive.
