Ive patiently waited and searched for only nice pieces in perfect shape, cuz im not familiar enough with repairs. Found all these at Goodwill within the last 4 months.

Concept 5.5 - $29.99
Thorens TD 160 MKII with ADC XLM-III stylus. All in the original box - $24.99
Rogersound Labs 3600's - $19.99

Are you s**tting me?? A TD-160 (MKII, no less) for $25?? On what planet?? That's just insane (I believe you and all - It's just that I NEVER see stuff like that around my area - CERTAINLY-not at the GW store).

How were those Rogersounds? I've always wondered what those sound like. Sort of like JBL's, I assume.

I know, I was shocked too... this GW in particular has been very good to me, I hit up all my local thrift stores 3-5 times a week. I really wish I was more handy with electronics, cuz I've passed on some quality units that only needed repairs.

The RSL are being hooked up tonight, I'll report back... meanwhile here"s a few pics of my new found Thorens :thmbsp:

What a wonderful find well done !!!!

Its beautiful.......

Just picked up a pair of Allison AL115 speakers at the Shoreline Goodwill for $10! Haven't checked their function yet, the drivers look perfect, bad grilles, and the cabinets are only OK. Seems from looking around a bit, if they work allright I got a nice find.

Update: They work beautifully and sound so rich and open. Holy cow. Too bad I don't need them.

Congrats. You don't see that brand much around here.

I was just looking at your post with envy this morning and lo and behold!...when i stopped into my local thrift, nestled amidst the crap telephones, coffee makers, and satellite boxes, was a THORENS TD-124 platter with SME tonearm! WHAT?! $12.80! WHAT?!

Well, its home with me and now I have to figure out how to test it and where to find a proper plinth. I am amazed again.

Is it just the platter or the entire turntable? The "test" and "plinth" part of the next-to-last sentence have me thinking it's more than the platter alone.

Either way, that is freaking crazy . . . Congrats.

Yes! I suppose it is everything except the plinth. Tonearm cable was cut, but that doesnt seem like a huge deal. Wow. Ill post pictures soon!

I promised myself I would stop reading this thread for this very reason. Now I want to go check all the thrifts in a 20 mile radius, because I'm sure there's a 124 waiting for me in one of them.

I'll say this, I regularly check the thrifts...this means usually three stores and at least one of the every day or two. THIS is the first Thorens that I have ever seen in my over 5 years of thrifting. You just never know what will be out there. A few weeks ago I bought a B&O RX-2 for $5.00 and last year a Pioneer PL 570 for $25. Its the frequency that seems to pay off. You just need to be patient...it seems.

The threading mounting legs (i think) are bent, but that seems to be about the only damage. It is kinda dirty though. I LOVE that is has a bubble-level built into it...what a brilliant idea. The tonearm will also need the string. I hope this will be fun and not too costly. Another project...gee whiz.

Yeah, I've found a few things (some especially good stuff when I was living in your neck of the woods, s/d), but the thrill of the score started to dominate a little too much for my own good.

Still, the prospect of something like a 124 buried under a pile of VCRs or some Altecs hidden behind a ratty old couch stokes the fires. There are 3 GWs within 5 miles of me. Hey, couldn't hurt to make the rounds before dinner . . . . :)

Had a great day today:

Pioneer SX-1000TD (working)
Kenwood KA-6100 (no output)
SONY TA-4650 Vfet (working)
Dynaco Stereo 410 (working)
Marantz 4300 (see below)
and some Monster rca cables.........all for $40 (actually the Marantz was *free)

*I almost cried when I saw the Marantz - power cord cut, right heat sink bouncing around inside the case, no speaker terminals on the back, what a crying shame.
