Goodwill/SA/Thrift Store Discussions & Finds

I have gone into the same SA for a couple of years now, ever since I found my Wharfedale speakers there, and haven't found anything else, except for some good vinyl, yesterday-JACKPOT! A complete Sony PS-4300, $20 out the door!

A pair of Marantz model 9s with sequential serial numbers--$35
McIntosh MR-78-- $18
Four matched quads of Gold Lion KT-77s-- $14
Leonardo sketches laying out the Mona Lisa-- $3
Venus de Milo's arms --$45 (I didn't want to spend that much but I did anyway)
Mint condition P-51 Mustang in flying condition with current annual --$75 (ex-wife made me sell it due to storage concerns)
Bugatti Royale complete with Concours d'Elegance trophy-- $55

I have something from the Titanic

traveling exhibition, a soup bowl repro.
I do have a 1917 Western Electric warplane radiophone reciever from the 1st World War that I found in a local antique mall, looks like something off the Titanic's radio room bulkhead. Uses 3 of the first govt commissioned tubes, Western Electric VT-1.

Sorry, no I don't. I saw the navigator's sextant from the Titanic at a thrift shop but it was way overpriced at $85 so I passed.

I do, however, have the original charts used by Christopher Columbus in 1492 ($12). Many people do not know how close we came to being called "The United States of Where the %$#! Are We" based on his handwritten note.

Picked up a pair of Thiel CS 1.2 speakers, very decent shape, but need new woofers $33.00. Anybody got a spare pair of Vifa P17WJ-01's.
Yamaha CR-820. Nice shape & works, except tuner dial $5.00, Probably tuning string loose.
Nikko KR-715 receiver, Very clean, one lamp out. $20.00.
I'll try to post pics of the Thiels later, right now they are out of wife eye-sight. :D

I picked up a Titanic related piece a couple of summers ago. An original piece of the iceberg that sunk the ship. I put it in the attic for safe keeping, figuring that it would be better off out of the direct light. I can't seem to find it right now, but I know that it's up there somewhere...:scratch2:

Sorry, I think your wife donated it to the goodwill here (it was taking up too much space in the attic). I bought it last week for 7 dollars.

What a sucker.

I saw that and passed as it was quite clearly (to an expert, anyway) not a rare piece from the Titanic but in fact a very common piece from the ill-fated Scott expedition (not H. H., but Robert Falcon).

My friend, I don't mean to be harsh but I'd advise staying out of thrift shops until you become a little better versed on the values of items. I say this with your best interests at heart.
