Goodwill/SA/Thrift Store Discussions & Finds

I passed up Occams razor with a spare packet of double edged blades for 2 bux cuz they looked kinda rusty. Pity cuz they also had Occams shaving brush and Occams comb with it in a nice travel case.

no audio this time
but 2 luftwaffe flashlights and a ww2 british helmet all for €20

Dang if I ever make it to Europe, I would be at least as interested in visiting the thrift stores as viewing any public art/structures/culture. I'm sure that the older stuff would be very interesting. If it's from the '90s or newer, probably the same Chinese crap we get. I wouldn't be after the 220v audio, and too expensive to return. To me it would be like a museum where I could touch the stuff.

 you should do that!

let me make you a bit angry ;)

i work at a thrift store, and none of the other co-workers know stuff about vintage audio :scratch2:

paradigm 9se

I picked up a pr. of Paradigm 9se speakers at the Sally Ann last week for $10.00. They are definately cosmetically challenged but the drivers are perfect and they sound great.

I hear via email from a Dual TT collector in the Netherlands, his has had some great finds. It somehow sounds the same as here but often way different.

Maybe not the best, but note worthy. Saw this little Fisher 132 with the op. manual on the bottom shelf at the GW. No price. Up to the counter I went. Girl say's 2 bucks.:thmbsp:Brought her home and fired it up. Sounds beautiful for a low power unit. Exceptionally clean in and out. "Stereo Beacon" bulb is out but that's about it.

Not sure yet if this was a deal, but found this Teac A-2300S a few minutes ago at Thrift Town for $19.99. Powers up, spins, even the VU meter lights work. Pinch roller engagement mechanism sticky, but that appears to be easily fixable. Filthy, needs re-veneering, no tape or takeup reel... Hopefully a score :) Will find out over the weekend...

I have one of those, and it's a nice little rtr. Did this come from the same place as your SAEs? If so, that thrift has some mojo.

Nope, this was from Thrift Town, a for-profit thrift; the SAE's (and Marantz separates, and Technics TT) were from the GW.

Picked up a Sansui G-22000 yesterday for 150 on CL, the gentleman says it needed fuses and he never got around to messin with the unit. Him and his wife are now pulling up stakes and moving and he had no use for it. I DID!!!

220wpc RMS....that's way too much power for you! :nono:

You better ship that to me before you ruin your ears. :D

I couldn't resist a little Kenwood KA-70 integrated for $20 today. It's small, but apparently 70 WPC. Nice heavy transformer and a big heat sink inside. I hooked it up to some crappy speakers and used an iPod for a source, and it sounded better than expected.
I don't really have a use for another amp, seeing as I'm already running an amp and three receivers already. .....unless I pair it with my Paradigm Titans for an office system.

I got a Marantz SR-1000 for $15 today at a yard sale. I just saw a older silver face Marantz and jumped. Later I googled it and discovered people aren't huge fans of that amp. She was selling off stuff to buy a house anyway, so I guess it was a good cause. I passed on a Dual CS-522 (the crazy stylus scared me off), a set of Coral BX-200s (I already have a set), and a set of Fisher XP-55Bs (I already have a set, but like them so much I was still very tempted), and some Avid Model 100s (they were missing the grills and a bit beat up, but still almost worth $5). Also I saw tons of 90s Kenwood junk - tons. At least three complete systems.

JVC SEA-10 5 band equalizer, no power (I think) $2. If anyone wants it, PM me.
Elac Miracord 710h TT, $10.00 mechanically OK, no signal left channel and hum. Case is scratched and dinged.
Complete Fisher SS system. Integrated AMP, Tuner, Equalizer, Cassette Deck $10. Everything works, going in the garage.
100' spool of 16 ga speaker New In Box cable $2

Haven't done much buying. But a pair of Infinity Reference One bookshelf speakers for $10.00. They need refoaming but sound so good! Wish I knew how..
