Goodwill/SA/Thrift Store Discussions & Finds

Heresy AND Walsh

From two local Good Wills my son and I picked up a set of Heresy III in perfect shape for $30.00 and a Set of Walsh Ohms for $60.00 those needed to be re-foamed. My son kept the Ohms and I have the Hereseys. My son also picked up a killer Realistic Receiver from the Salvation Army for $9.00 that needed a knob and some lights. He posts here as well so perhaps he will give the details.

my 50 cent (real) Rolex from the Goodwill.

That's funny around here obviously fake Rolexes are prices at at least $50. I'm talking about the "gold" ones that are now more of a combination of base metal and green mold. If they look nice they are in the hundreds. I'd hate to see what they would charge for a real Swiss watch.

Of course, we can get good stereos cheap so it's all a trade off.

My best find would have to be my sansui AU-11000a, TU 9900, and bose 601's all for $50. I credit this for bringing me into the world of audio. I bought it for the speakers and then i did some research and realized what i had come across.

My first Carver!

Picked up a Carver CDP, a TL-3220, the other day.

It works fine, and I think will be a nice replacement for the run-of-the-mill Sony CDP that I'm using now.

And it is also the first piece of equipment I've ever had with rack handles!

So I'm coming home from a funeral today, and I drive past one of the thrifts that has smiled on me in the past. I figure if I was at a funeral, I've got some Karma coming to me, right?

I went in, back to the electronics area, and looked at a sea of black units, and some Hitachi silver-faced little receiver they wanted waaaay too much for.
Hmm, no Karma today, I guess...

Was just about to leave, when I looked more closely at one of the black boxes. Turns out to be a Yamaha T-85 that, except for the missing AM bar antenna, looks like it just came out of the package.

It also happens to be 25% off day at that thrift, so for a mere $16.10, I have a near-legendary digital tuner. Got it home, and it works great.

Karma shines on!
