They're definitely going to need some work. the right one doesn't even half a positive connection knob, and is missing a tuner, among other issues. Both of them have foam that's falling out, and I suspect it won't sound the best when I turn the left one on. My dad and I plan on taking them to a repair shop near me and hopefully get the most out of them. I guess I am extremely lucky to have these.

Make sure the refoam job is done with the foam mounted to the back of the cone.
I would ask to see some previous foam jobs from your repair shop.

Great little speaker BTW. Could do with being a bit higher from the floor.

Well, those were the stands they came with, and they look good, but if I find anything, I'll make sure to check it out
 
You can re-foam them yourself. New foam surrounds usually cost less than $30 for two. Simply Speakers will have the correct foam and instructions. Re-foaming speakers is not hard and doesn't require any special skills.

FWIW: I re-foamed one pair of speakers (Advent Mini's) sometime ago. They are currently in use in my bedroom 5.1 system. It took me ~1hour to do both speakers.

Take his advice so you don't damage the voice coils,and as long as the previous owner did not damage them also.
 
if you want to verify both woofers are good you can lay the speakers on their backs and play some music at low volume. It will verify the voice coils are good, and have not been damaged.

I always test the woofers before I spend 25 bucks on new surrounds.

I found foam rings on eBay for 5 bucks, gonna get myself a pair

Alright, thanks for the advice. I was planning (impulsively) on playing them as soon as I got the banana plugs for the amp, but I will order some new foam and watch a tutorial vid

I will make sure to do that, but only a little.
 
considering the advice I got from y’all, I will take the time tonight to order some replacement foam off of eBay, and do some research on how to install this foam

Also, I need to take the right speaker to a repair shop, it is missing one of the connection plugs (I think the negative plug).
 
These are worth getting decent surrounds. Not the generic $5 cheapos. I mean it’s like 20-25 bucks for good surrounds. Rick Cobb is who I get mine from. I use Aileen’s glue instead of what he would provide.

The difference between cheap generic surrounds and ones that are meant for your speaker are mostly fitment. The correct ones will fit perfect. They’ll also be the correct roll size and compliance.

Cheap surrounds might have a smaller roll, or they might be too stiff.

Post a pic of the plug that’s missing please.
 
Well, I wouldn’t say they’re generic. They’re built for JBL speakers specifically, and I checked the reviews of the seller, and they’re generally positive. I wouldn’t call them generic, but I will make sure to return them if they look/feel cheaply built
