Got Praise for a Fellow AK Member? Post it here

@GordonW, he's helped me out many times. He also builds incredible tube mono blocks. I know, I have some. @baco99, he really knows his stuff and has also helped me out many times.
And AK would not be AK if I did not mention are dear departed @marcmorin. I own one of his fully modded turntables.
There are many others that I have had the chance to interact with through the years and I should mention, but I know I will miss many, so best to keep it to the 3 I have mentioned.

@radioactive turned me on to the beauty that is Fairchild. That alone should put him in the AK Hall of Fame!

I should mention, that @radioactive is one of the sources of info that I have been looking at, in addition to Dave Gillespie, in re-furbing a pair of Fairchild 260 amps that I have here now. I feel much more confident that I can get optimum results, after reading the postings from both...

Regards,
Gordon.

Thanks Gordon for the praise.:thumbsup:Daves post on restoring those 260 amplieirs to get the best out of them went above my head as does his other restorations threads.i would love to see what he could do with a 248? preamplifier.
Another Fairchild Fan was Sam Cogley who was into their turntables and was a wealth of information on those .unfortunately he hasnt been on ak since april 2019.Im not sure what happened but he was the one that started the thread attention fairchild freaks so ill give him praise for that and all his other contributions to ak.

While I have certainly given him a hard time over the years, I'd like to praise AK member @botrytis for his extremely helpful nature in regard to setting up digital libraries and the software needed. I had a question about Daphile, which Botty has praised for some time, and had no idea how to get off the ground with it. I'm still tinkering, but I hope to soon have it going. He's been absolutely essential for all the technical questions I had, and has gone above and beyond.

Thanks, bud. That's the AK spirit, right there.

Hey gang...I want to share a major shout-out to AKer db12.

A little while back I posted in the "Introductions" forum (not really knowing where else to put it) a request for a favour in Halifax, Nova Scotia. I live in Vancouver BC so not much I could do from here.

The back story is that about a well over a decade ago I gave a business colleague, Greg, an set of Hitachi silver faced separates, amp and tuner, and a pair of EPI120C speakers as an office system. He and I stopped doing business regularly when we sold our company in early 2017 but I just before Christmas I came across a really nice Technics cassette deck and, Greg being the only guy I know that uses cassettes, I boxed it up and sent it out to him to add to his system. In a call after he received it he told me that he needed new speakers because his were buzzing, noisy.

Now, Greg is not an audio guy and I suspected that his speakers were probably fine as my recollection is that they were re-foamed before I gave them to him. I kinda thought that with the humidity in Bedford (a Halifax suburb community) what would be required is a shot of Deoxit in all of the controls in the amp and tuner, maybe check the speaker wire connections in case they are bit dirty, and I suspected that would be all that was needed.

But how to do from here in Vancouver?

In response to my request in Introductions db12 poked his head up and offered to help if he could. Now, it turns out that Danny lives in the Annapolis Valley (Famous for its fruit, particularly apples) over an hour away from Bedford but Danny arranged a time with Greg and drove to Greg's office and sorted Greg's audio issues including plugging in the tape deck for Greg. (Greg is 74 now and not much of an audio guy other than to listen.) Since Danny works (well, so does Greg) all this needed to be done after work hours so this was pretty a much a whole evening doing a favour for two guys that Danny did not even know! That is the AK spirit in action!

So, a major public thanks from me to Danny, but I also want the AK collective to joint in an pass along your own pat-on-the-back to an AKer who, like others here, too, set a really good example for us all to follow.

So, cheers :beerchug: to Danny.

John in Vancouver.

Man, I just scrolled down far enough to reach this sub forum and I must say it’s great. A bunch of kind and generous folks here, but gotta extend special thanks to @merlynski for the amazing support he offered me on a pioneer project (and provides to so many others). Simply an amazing AKer.

Hey guys I want to give a nod to @Northwinds here in this area. Ron has always made me feel like this place is a real community and has been so nice and accommodating in all my interactions with him. He’s a great member of AK!

This is true. Ron's a die-hard guitarist and all-around rocker.

Hope the breathing is getting easier, Ron, and that you're stacked up on firewood for the fall.

Man, this much needed thread has been a real shot in the arm for me this morning!

There's just so many personalities on board I can't isolate them for their different talents/strengths.

The ones I do appreciate the most are those:

who have such a depth of knowledge in music
help others in tech need
help others in emotional need
humourous on their take on life
are always positive in their POV's
have extensive experiences in life
can see the bigger picture

sensitive to others' POV's

To mention the few would do a disservice for the many I admire!

But, they are are out there...on a daily basis.

Q

I got a thread on it, but again wish to thank @ETLS for his proddings and kindness helping this Luddite to get with the times, and go ultrasonic on cleaning vinyl.

Immeasurable help in this matter.

If you're having great results cleaning your records from using what I built, and you're not having to spend a sh!tton of time doing so, then I'm satisfied all the work (&$$$) put into getting this system built was time and money well spent.

I've been remiss to thank you for the positive reviews, and hopefully one day soon, (Good Lord willing and the creek don't rise) I'll get to drop in to visit on my way up north to Connecticut.

Life has gotten in the way of this hobby of late, but just last night, I enjoyed a previously unlistenable John Martyn "Piece By Piece" record that your record rotisserie brought back around.

The results are like Mike Tyson's defense (as he once comically and incorrectly said) - IMPETUOUS (s.i.c.)
