Hi ak, it's been a while since I've been active here. Yesterday I traded an 80s Kenwood receiver for these visonik 602s at a local junk store. I haven't even gotten a chance to hear them yet, save for the short period I verified they worked, and already I found a speakerlab DAS-SW to pair with them on FB marketplace. I just picked it up for $15, which I believe to be a great deal. The woofer does need to be reformed (the guy I got it from tested it at full volume connected to a car amp and I heard it rub a bit which did scare the pants off me but the driver seems to be unscathed), but the cabinet is in decent shape and it is very well built. I know these originally came as kits. This one seems to have been put together adequately. The builder did make one weird choice, though; they painted the front and rear of the sub grey. It doesn't look bad, however, so I don't mind.
What I do mind is the lack of details for this sub online! There is a 1985 speakerlab catalog on hifi engine that lists it, and from that I know it is a 10in sub that is in a vented 18x18x18in cube tuned to 31hz. Nominal impedance is 8 ohms, and this passive sub has stereo speaker level inputs and outputs.
I am very curious to know what this kit may have retailed for when new, and any other little tidbits or any interesting info anyone who may have been around at the time has to share about it. Do you all think it is quality enough to keep up in terms of clarity and distortion with my new visoniks? I wonder how far off it is from the m&k goliath these visoniks would have likely been paired with originally. Thanks for any info shared!
