Sounds like a win/win for sure. Even a win for the crappy seller who got to keep your money but whatever, you've got a basis for a project and didn't have to pay anything for it.
I'd start a thread in the Yamaha forum and ask for help if you want to fix it yourself or start PMing the mentioned members and see if they will take it on.
