Great "Every Day Carry" knives

Dragonfly research has the original steel as V-10, which to some is easier to sharpen (?). ---> Newb to knives here so go easy.

The Seller of mine swapped out the V-10 steel for ZDP-189, but kept the Zome FRN which was original to the V-10 Dragonflys.

Correct me if wrong on this but to swap/upgrade the V-10 to ZDP-189, the cost difference was approx. $30, right?

I haven't sharpened any of my ZDP-189 blades yet. I do have a set of Lansky diamond stones for when I do sharpen them.

You are correct V-10 steel is easier to sharpen it being a "softer" steel than ZDP-189.

I don't remember the exact cost difference between the Dragonfly versions but the ZDP-189 blades were significantly more expensive.

I carry a ton of things on me all the time to the point that I wear a vest every day so I don't have everything in my pants pockets. I currently carry three knifes that I have on me at all time. They are tools and as such aren't very flashy or expensive, but I have a SOG salute that I got as an impulse buy years ago when I was at the mall with my kid and while he was trying on shoes I wandered into the knife shop and came out with this one. I've had other knifes since that I've used, but there is something that just keeps me going back to the SOG it takes a ton of punishment and I prefer a lock back over a liner lock and the deep pocket clip is really nice. The Gerber utility knife is great because it's tiny any I don't notice it until I need it, I do hate the blade retention screw and wish it used something else, but I haven't found something to replace it yet that is a similar size . The last one is a tiny Buck 309, that I've had for probably 35 years. I don't really use it for anything, but it's kind of like a good luck charm that I carry for nostalgia.

I have been carrying old Schrade Walden N.Y. Pocket knife for 40 yrs.
I worked for an old hardware store owner cleaning out his warehouse and found his original store inventory and display. He said i could have them all. New in boxes. Hundreds . I sold most at a nice sum. Kept a few boxes for myself. When i say boxes , each box had 6 paper wrapped knives.
 
I carry the large Griptilian one of my younger brothers gave me. I lost it once so I bought a nice used one off the Bay. I later found it behind my pickup's side storage box. I put a different clip on it so it sits deeper in my pocket. The used one went to my nephew, the son of the bro that gave me the new one. I also carry a Victorinox Swiss Army "Scientist model," with knife blade, flat screwdriver/can/bottle opener & phillips screwdriver blades, onboard ink pen, tweezers, toothpick and straight pin, as well as a magnifying glass and corkscrew w/ mini screwdriver that winds in to the corkscrew. It could have easily been called the "journalist" because I've had to use the pen in emergencies when my regular pen ran out. I've been carrying the SA for decades and don't want to ever lose the Victorinox, because they have discontinued the model and used ones have gone up to between $75 for a rough one to $200+ for one with original box. Felt weird at first carrying two knives, but they both serve different functions. Here's a quick pic of my Grip (I have to torque the clip screws down a little and clean tape residue off the blade) and a borrowed photo of a Scientist:

I've also own/owned most of the Schrade Old Timer knives, especially the small folder pocket knives, plus hunting/skinning knives, really large folders, sharpening stones and the leather carry cases, etc. My dad owned a tavern and they were one of the most popular Punch Board prizes, so my brothers and I got one nearly every Christmas in our stockings. That's how we got Tonka toys too back in the day (wish I still had those, but we pretty much worked them to death and gave them away). When a punchboard was nearly played out (most of prizes won), but lots of punches left, they got "pulled" at night and dad and his partner just got to take home left over prizes. Dad would also play with customers when he was off work or waiting to go on shift. That stimulated the customers to play, they'd pass the board back and forth each punching the number of punches they paid for. Each player would keep any prizes/cash they won. However, dad would give lots of stuff away to good customers too. We also got a few of the Schrade Scrimshaw knives, especially the ones that you could put on your keychain.

My daily carries, when at large, are a Mini Grip and a SA Explorer. I like your SA because the Philips screwdriver is not at 90 degrees.
 
In my pocket right now: Spyderco Manix II, Sprint Run. I foolishly sold my orange one, regretted that decision almost immediately, but managed to find another, this one with dark red scales, and CPM-20CV steel. Probably the sharpest out-of-the-box folder I`ve ever owned. Just gave it a light stropping on my Bullhide belt, and it is definitely ready to perform surgery !

I carry a Leatherman Wingman most of the time. I use it daily for something. I used to carry a mid sized Swiss Army, but switched to the multitool when someone gifted me one. I've had a Gerber and a few Leatherman, plus a cheap one or two in there. The cheap ones suck. The gerber was nice, but I liked the Leatherman better. My daughter keeps the Gerber in her computer bag.

Everybody has their comfort zone...

Once about 15 years ago or so, I semi-discretely pulled out my 3 3/4" blade knife (relatively on the small side for a work knife) to open a box at a store and a woman with entirely too much time on her hands said something along the lines of, 'Do you really think you need to carry a knife like that all the time?'

To which I responded, 'Probably not. And I probably don't need to carry a pistol either but you just saw that the knife can come in handy sometimes.'

She look beyond appalled. :p

My go-to blade for the longest was the vintage Schrade LB7 Lockback knife, a workhorse which was purchased along with its leather holster for a song in Tijuana, Mexico during the early 80's. My current fave is the Schrade Old Timer. It may be small, but works for anything I need a blade for.
I picked up the pair of Sheffield Boreal knives at a local garage sale because I liked the hardwood handles and the pocket clips (clips not shown).

I love Buck knives! the black & silver brings me right back to camping as a kid in the 70s! I just ordered the wife a custom from Michael Bodnar from Staten Island.

"Small Fighter style, around 5-3/4” overall with 2-3/8” cutting edge CPM154 with etched finish Burgundy Maple Burl handle supplied sheath in natural or brown with belt clip" the etched CPM154 is like the blue handled knife below... all 3 are "Small Fighters"
