Great "Every Day Carry" knives

I have never paid much attention to fine quality knives in the past and only carried basic rather cheap knives that I would use as a simple tool. Now that I am paying closer attention to quality knives and learning more about them, I am starting to understand and appreciate why some people really have a fascination with them. I still don't think that I will ever collect a knife simply to display it, although I do appreciate why some choose to do so, I am intrigued by the various designs and materials that go into making a high quality purpose driven tool.

I've been carrying a Blackie Collins designed Gerber Bolt Action for close to 30yrs, simple design with the surest locking mechanism I've ever seen.

Totally by accident I recently acquired a Gerber Mini Remix, really awesome little knife. I was lucky enough that it was also the rare two bladed model which has now been discontinued.

I've carried a first gen Spyderco Endura for as long as I can remember (G2 blade w/built in clip). If I'm not carrying it I carry a Boker AK74 in Black. When I wear a suit I carry a Seki-Cut Bob Lum Encounter fixed blade. None of these knives have ever let me down.

Those are some interesting Damascus patterns he achieves!

If your refering to the Encounter mine has Black aluminum scales. I was thinking of putting on some G10 scales as I do that kind of stuff but have had too many projects as of late.

Damascus is a type of steel involving folding during the forging process, the pattern is revealed in the honing process. This may look impressive but it wasn't the driving force behind it's origination.

I usually carry around a Stanley disposable blade folding knife. Light, thin and very workwise--all the knife I ever needed when I was a boilermaker. I notice that many younger tradesmen carry those folding box cutter kind'a things.

Those are handy, and irreplaceable, have always had one in my Carpenter bags...and there is one in every tool box and bag I own.

My experience, great tool, handle/housing failure if "over used" can cause injury....the box cutter ones are worse.

Suit....extremely unlikely...

I always carry a knife, unless it prohibited. One of Man's oldest tools.
Here are some of my daily carry knives.
Spyderco Paramilitary, Spyderco Delica 4, (love these), Victorinox Climber, (awesome) and a Spydero Dragonfly in stainless.

Zero Tolerance ZT-0350, my everyday go-to, beat-the-crap-out-of-it knife,
and a Buck/Mayo TNT (Titanium & S30V w/ Bos heat treat....a sweet EDC knife)

What do you use to sharpen the S30V? I have a Spyderco Sharpmaker but it seems to take me forever to get that Paramilitary sharp.VG 10 is no problem.

I use a DMT diamond-impregnated rod (600 grit), which leaves a slightly "toothy" edge, which I prefer on a working knife like the ZT....I use it on cardboard, rubber hose, hemp and nylon rope, electrical wire, you name it. A more refined edge tends to slide right off many of those surfaces, so I just use the one-rod approach. On blades that don`t see as much heavy-duty use, I`ll follow up the DMT with a ceramic rod, and sometimes a few minutes on a leather strop.

For at least a year, I`ve been toying with the idea of getting one of these Ken Onion Work Sharp deals, I also have quite a few kitchen knives, and I`m thinking that little machine might make life easier....one of these days I`ll probably get around to it....

Thanks for the info MaxxVolume. The Spyderco Sharpmaker has been great, just having some issues with S30V. I'll look into that DMT 600 grit rod.
