Wait a sec...our country is bankrupt (just ask the Chinese who lend us money) and we sure collect audio stuff!!! Besides the rich often stay rich (in Greece and the USA)...

Well, I would say they were insane, but look what the super rich spend on their cars which I would imagine would require more maintenance and up keep costs than the ultra high end equipment. The best part is they all seemed like very friendly, down to earth guys.

That video gets discussed here every couple of years, but it has been a while since the last time, and it's a good video that many newbies probably haven't seen yet, so there should be no need to delete this!

I think that's one of my favorite audio-related videos. At first I couldn't decide if it was making fun of the audiophiles, or showing them in a flattering light. I finally decided it just captured them nicely overall (a bit of both!), while still being entertaining as a film. I watch it every few months or so.

Those few guys in the video are only the tip of the iceberg, too: there are more members in their club, and there is some fabulous, world-class audio gear in the hands of other Greek audiophiles, too. Just because a country is in financial straits, doesn't mean that every person living in that country has to be, too. And some of those guys make up for their audio spending by being thrifty in other ways, like the one guy who said "that's why I drive an old car!" :scratch2:... Come to think of it, I'm kind of like that. I don't even drive a car here; you really don't need one in Hong Kong, so I've just avoided it. (I rent cars when I go elsewhere, though.) The savings from that alone, more than pay for what I've spent on audio gear! :D

The other video that I think is excellent --longer and more informative, if not so artistic-- is the Philoctetes Society discussion of "Deep Listening - Why Audio Matters," also on YouTube. It's a long discussion, at least an hour long, so make sure you have ample time if you start to watch it. Some of the most famous names in the industry have a very interesting discussion of a lot of topics that come up here on AK from time to time, too.

[Sorry, my computer or browser or YouTube or something is so screwed up that when I go to the page, no URL is showing at the top, so I cannot post a link. Search it on YouTube, and it will show up.]

The speakers disappear...

I love the thought from the guy who said that, when he reaches that semi-hypnotic state, "...I disappear."

Yep... That's what happens for me.
