A few years ago I was interested in looking for a portable DAC that I could mate say to a Discman D-505 or a D-321 unit.

I'm starting to sway more towards JVC then I did Sony for the longest time as my brand preference.

So in terms of making music more musical i assume it brings out all the instruments in the music and gives them more accurate reproduction and widens the soundstage?

A good DAC would make the music more musical.

Lots of great options these days at very affordable prices.

When I first began with DAC's, I went with the Dragonfly. Cheap, and yet, sounds very full and clean. I moved up to a Meridian Director, and things got better.

To my ears, the flat, one-dimensional sound some cd's had became fuller, more analog. Warmer, and better.

Also, don't be a brand fanatic, as sometimes a real jewel might be under-appreciated, or overlooked.

I always wondered how to make digital audio sound better and not so flat and dull. Thanks for the advice on DAC's. And your right onwardJames I should be more open to a variety of systems and brands.

I've got a few console stereos I'd like to restore and recap I have one of those Zenith omni-sound systems, table top units sits on it's original cart. Sadly it sounds like one of the channels sounds quieter then the other. Probably dirty controls.

Also got a rare 1957 Admiral console AM/FM/phono/TV combo with a 25" black and white tv. I was very surprized to find a 63 year old vaccum tube based equipment that didn't require extensive restoration. Cabinet is in decent condition has scratches and Nick's here and there. The unit powers up both the tv and the stereo, although just like the zenith probably needs pots cleaned and recapping to ensure proper function.

Glad to know theres fellow coloradans on here! I thank the rest of the community for a heart warming welcome. I'm a novice in electronic repair but I would like to learn and build my own electronics eventually.

I've done practice soldering on different things. One time I resoldered a turtle beach headset that had connection problems to its mixer cable.
