Howdy.
Us: expat yanks down under. Have recently gotten the vintage bug after getting my teen son into classic vinyl and music. It's a great hobby to share. We were thinking, hey, we ski, we dive, what's a less gear and $ intensive hobby we could get into? Of course! Vintage HiFi!

I have vivid childhood memories of Dad's Sansui stereo he brought back from Korea (GI) - the warm yellow-orange glow of the Teac reel to reel VU meters, Sansui amp - the gorgeous wood lattice grilles over the speakers, excellent stuff. There was a reel to reel of classic Christmas music playing nonstop during the season. He still has the Amp and turntable - I've claimed, sadly the speakers were DONATED a couple years ago for a basement renovation (the horror).

Later, some Uni guys upstairs from Mom in her PhD days had this massive, EPIC silver Technics system, 4 speakers stacked 2 and 2. They taped AC/DC Back in Black for me one summer and I blew out Mom's portable cassette player (the single speaker, handle on the end job) playing it. I got admonished - and a boombox for Christmas.

I've recently acquired a Luxman L-580 that could have quite an interesting provenance, I'll spin a thread on that in Solid State a bit later to get some help investigating, and some KEF 104aBs - both at the local HiFi experts for refurbishment.

glad to be here - already read some amazing information and discussion.

I visited your fair city about 20 years ago. Did the whole tourist thing, Sydney Opera House and the walk across the Harbor Bridge (at night no less, it was spectacular.)

Been here 4 years now, and whenever people come to visit that's the first thing we do, take them down to the harbor, and walk from the Opera House to Rocks and back. It never gets old.
