Group Wisdom for carbon resistors

Thats a very good point .. and I doubt they were top shelf even new.. not for mass production. I'm sure they were reasonable for the day.. but not mil-spec or even close to it.
 
I have a ton of the damn things, I used to do repairs on guitar tube amps and some guys wouldn’t let me use anything but carbon comp resistors.
I wouldn’t consciously use them on anything if I had the choice.
 
I have them too.. my vintage aka.. pre-1950 radios live on them and for the most part, don't care about drifting values unless it's really off

I understand this completely - I have customers like this also. I have learned that this group of customers have very special feelings about the coloration their amplifiers give to the music they play - I have also learned that there's no use in trying to get them to change their feelings on this topic - Chris
 
power of myth.

have one rocker say that only Dales from 1957, tubes from 1963 and
the special markings, tropical fish caps from Mullard, and guitar pics
from moose horns, and then wait for continuous Black Friday demand
from the guitar guys.

every where I go, I find same demand for the mythical parts.

part of life, I'd prefer to enjoying the music.
