Gun Porn

Yeah, but what else was done to the trigger, receiver, and gas system?

Chucking an factory M1A barreled-receiver into any chassis isn't going to make it a DMR.
The Socom M1A are known for accuracy nobody brags about, re-crowning the barrel and using SEI's Socom muzzle device kit is a big upgrade.

Chucking standard rack grade M14 barreled receiver into chassis stock did in fact turn about 7,000 of them into very accurate and dependable DMR.

Both of the Chassis stocks currently available for the M14/M1A rifles are known to reduce the size of the guns groups size by at least half. Adding the trigger shoe, using better ammunition and tweaking here and there can make the rifle in a chassis stock even more accurate.

Yep, I'm a fan of the M1A, and well-aware of the EBR/Sage stuff. Here's a lifelong friend in SW Asia (near Korengal Valley) with his issued M39. The M1A I have was free, I just bought a surplus stock and heat shield. I have zero complaints with it out to 100yards. But, unless you're going to pay Fulton Armory money, or send all your parts to HueyGunner to be hot-rodded, then there's more to it than that.

He loved* how you had to re-zero the optic everytime you cleaned the gun, or bumped it. Realistically, they were a stop-gap using available .30cal rifles until AR-pattern gas-guns backfilled the inventory. No one would consider running an M14/M1A if they had a choice between that an literally anything else in the same caliber. I love them, don't get me wrong, but if I want to shoot stuff far away I have a standard factory LaRue LT-10 that's much better.

The M39 was the worst of the military EBR's, I am sorry your friend was issued that rifle... no Marine that carried one liked it. The Army and Navy received much better EBR's, but only the Army was fully supported and that support didn't arrive until midway through 2011.

That's a picture of him in the Army... I don't remember the exact unit, but he was a Forward Observer, sent to DM school, and attached to an infantry unit. This was back in... mid-2000s, hence the smurf uniforms. I sent him all my MARPAT stuff, and you can see the tape wrapping his scope and rifle. I would have sent him a bunch of my desert digis, but they never would have let him wear them.

It looks like he is using the diving board scope mount that replaces the stripper clip guide like the one pictured below... what year was his picture taken?

UPS dropped off my 3rd suppressor in this batch. Griffin Revolution 45 (Mod4).

Immediately threw it on a USP40 Compact and ran two magazines through it in the long configuration.

Playing around with the short confirmation on a Tisas Raider.

I need to get a threaded barrel for my USP45!

What affect does that have on recoil, if any.
Not much, but it decreased muzzle flip. I need to order some taller sights for it. I was guessing where the front sight was sitting on the plates @50 yards, and hit them maybe half the time, ad the suppressor obscures their view.

Home alone this morning, so I loaded a few 1911 mags of 230gr. ball, and tried out the Raider. I'm sure all the fresh snow helped mute the noise, but .45ACP through .45ACP baffles is pretty tame.

It's ~50yards to the steel plates at the back of my yard, and it was easier to use the 1911 sights to hit more consistently.

Just picked up a CZ Shadow 2 compact. Shot it out of the box before I left the store. Beautiful gun that shoots great. For home defense I use a Canik TP9 Elite compact. They shoot and feel alike. Same ergonomics, dimensions, slight edge to the trigger on the CZ, like the sights better on the Canik. They weigh the same 1lb 12 oz but that's with the Canik having a laser/light combo installed. Had shot the Elite 2 days before buying the CZ. It felt like shooting the same gun. What may give people pause is you can buy 3 of the Caniks for the money of the CZ for nearly identical performance. THe CZ with all it's praise just confirms how good the Canik is at 1/3 the money.

CZ at 30' firing 50 rounds as fast as I could. 24 in the center and only 9 outside the 9 ring. Helped that it feels like shooting the Canik.
Next trip to the range I'll shoot for accuracy at 45' with the CZ

Tried out both of my Glonk, Block, Glock 80% clones (G17 and G19 sizes) with my Revolution 45, and neither of them liked being suppressed. The slide would cycle enough to chamber a new round, but wouldn't cock the striker, which was weird. I'm looking at reduced power recoil spring kits for both of them. I don't have any 147gr/150gr 9mm on hand to test, and that might also be part of the issue, but I'll have to order some.

I got bored hand-cycling both plastic pistols (they normally run like champs, minus the can) and brought my 1911 Raider back out, and that thing ran flawlessly with a suppressor in both the short & long configs, which is ironic, but way more fun.
