Gun Porn

My two are both Springfields: a Ronin and an Emissary. Both shoot nicely, but the Emissary certainly feels better.

Ronin 3 was supposed to replace the EMP3-CA but we can thank CA roster for forcing Springfield to keep older models in production. Ronin is the same as EMP-CA but with reversed colors, right thumb safety deleted, and almost $400 lower MSRP.

Yes, 3 is barrel length. Emissary is an interesting re-imagine. It has 2011 vibe without being a 2011. I like the matching 360 degree grip texture and GI solid trigger. Feel in hand must be very good.
Yeah, with the added weight in the Emissary it's a smooth & soft shooter.

Old neighbor was selling some stuff to fund a new project, and asked me if I was interested in a .300BLK bolt-gun he was letting go. So now I have a new SBR project, a CVA Cascade Veil Tac. The 16" barrel definitely launches my 220gr. subs faster than the speed of sound, so it'll need to be chopped down. The trigger is actually really nice, and for $400 I'm not complaining. I slapped a SWFA 10x scope that I had laying around on top.

The second private range build is in progress. It may be difficult to see due to picture quality, but there is a high back stop. So many details to work through...

The first range that I built started as junk hole and I worked a deal with the neighbor. It took some time to get all of the junk hauled off and cleaned up. I would go out there every day and pick up little bits of trash until it looked like golf greens. Then I started bringing in a variety of targets. All of the other neighbors started to use it as well and it could be pushed to 100 yards. It was one of those unique times and places. I could walk out of the door and the practice range was a two minute walk.

Built this shooting range 12 years ago after moving back to the farm in MS. The cows destroyed it using it as scratching posts. Plus, had two gun shy dogs that were absolutely terrified every time it got any use.

It didn't take long to figure out that steel was the way to go. Also invested in a pistol and rifle rest.

Had a look at one of the local ranges when I had the first range and it was a joke in comparison. They had 7 yard pistol and wouldn't allow pistols on the rifle range. The rifle distance sucked as well. At the time, I was pushing rimfire pistol out to 70 yards on 8" steel.

I sit on my deck and shoot 55yards with my pistols, because I'm lazy. Then I walk down to the steel targets and actually practice. You can see them in this other rifle pic.

It was also no fun walking down there with 3ft. of snow, in slippers.

I've got 200-250yarss to play with in the lower field, but it's gonna take a lot of work to get some lanes cleared.

Appreciate the range photos from you guys. They seem to be inspirational. Had some daylight left to treat and haul off the invasive bush. Then I could do the rough initial cut.

More bush/branch cleanup today and mounted a couple of targets. All I could find was some framed plywood and one steel.
This is a shot of max. distance. Anyone want to take a guess on how far away that 4x8 piece of plywood is?

Needed to do more clearing and push everything back to achieve a legit 100 yards. The first photo is spot on at bench height for that distance. Nice!
