I was in the gym several times a week until I got married. I'm trying to get back to swimming every other day. I do some cardio daily - two mile walk or thirty minute swim.

exercise cuts your life short, the faster your heart beats, the faster you use up your available beats... which is why smokers, obese people and athletes have shorter lives ( don't bother quoting and flaming me, it's just not worth it)

They just opened up a gym in our coop and it's great. $32 a month for me and my wife. All brand new Nautilus equipment. I was there first time today. Got a nice work out and beat the crap out of the heavy bag.

Nice benefit of the new house is that our HOA fee includes access to the community Club House which has a pretty well equipped gym. Started going there 3 days a week to start getting back in shape.

Hey, has anybody stumbled into the "cross-fit" phenomenon at their gym?

Near as I can figure, this is sort of the "f--- you" of gym workouts, involving lots of noise, grunting, swearing (and other vocal histrionics), haphazard tossing about of freeweights, ad general unpleasant and antisocial behavior. Its practitioners (and there are a few at my gym) look like people who wouldn't hesitate to coal-roll passing pedestrians in their lifted Ram Diesels. And those are the women. The less said about the men, the better.

The gym has a policy of "no crashing" but the teenage girls who run the joint are easily intimidated, so not much gets done, unless one feels like making an unpleasant scene. Which, unfortunately, is occasionally necessary.

Any of you guys had similar experiences?

Actually, going to one's gym eight (8) times per month ain't exactly akin to "being there all the time", as the poll suggests. That's only twice weekly ... not a lot.

I totally agree with Mystic. 3 times a week is the bare minimum to really get any usefulness
of the Membership. After freezing my former membership when covid hit,
I gained 25 Lbs- the CV19 Gut:bye:
So I joined a new 1/2 price closer to me gym, 7 months ago. Average 3 X a week.
I lost 30 lbs, and regained most of my balance, and muscle mass.
While still 10 lbs over my Senior class winning Speed skating weight,
I'm not about to strap my Skates on anytime soon. At 69 yrs age when you fall you Break stuff!
Fitness is not just about working out but a Life style change. Diet, Limiting or cutting substance abuse,
and Sleep are all just as Important.
As a word to the seniors out there mobility is everything!
The hardest Exercise in the gym is the 1st step through the front door!

They just opened a gym for residents of our Coop. I go at least three times a week, four if I have time.

Sometimes when doing some critical listening, I'll stand IFO my system
and using a thick elastic W/handles and can do a full arm workouts.

As one in their late sixties and knows all to well. One must use it or loose it. In the years before Covid tried go everyday. Quit for a year maybe before going back then it was seven days week for a hour or more. Early rain or shine. To the last month or so. Been having back pain battles since springtime. Therapy shots therapy until it was found two disks were ruptured requiring a cage screws fusion solution. Now in recovery so the Y is after my current in home PT is in the rear view.

Have every intention of picking back up the same scheduled as was prior to this current setback.

I swim.

Usually try to hit the pool three times a week, and beg off a bit in the Summer.

Great way to keep weight down. A short time to socialize. No gear required.

Keeps connective tissue supple and stretched, and good for cardiac work out.

Price is right,
esp for seasoned clientele.

Works for me.
