Haiku

Time Passes

Clock hands creep ahead,
Sliding across the mute face.
Days have been numbered,
Passing in orderly rows,
Waiting for the final chime.

Reminded me of a song, "My Grandfather's Clock (1876) therein the clock stopped when the old man died".

It had quite the impact on me as a kid, listening to it on the radio...and NO, I wasn't around WHEN this song was written! :bigok:

Stubbed Toe

Again toed my stub
done too often becomes nub
Oh how loud I shriek
More than a month and a week
Still pogo stick bounce in streets

Strange how that word, "stub" comes to mind...and always seems it relates to the toes!

Life Cycle

Worm burrows upward.
Seeking the sun's energy.
Raven ends it's quest.

Early "bird" really does get the worm, eh?

A clock does more than tell time, as it measures our time on the Stage before... the final act.

CHRISTMAS

Sad that our Yuletide
now morphed into just giving
and not His birthday
being celebrated for
what was original birth.

Stumbled a fair bit on this one...after many attempts for a Tanka.

For some who take in this tightly structured writing format that originated by Japanese writers, that is an enigma of sorts, due to the brevity of having only three lines to work with.

This oriental group of poets became popular in the 1700's, but some earlier traces of this writing can be found as far back as in the 700's.

The initial intent was to share in appreciation of Nature, but it's not so for AK'ers who want to try their hand at this easy, but sometimes difficult task to stay within the 5/7/5 syllable structure. Then there's the Tanka, with a 5/7/5/7/7 format, making it a little longer with the two added lines.

Give it a go. Y'all might enjoy the challenge of writing one. The second will be easier!
