Hammond Bears?

I have been following the story with vague interest in The Chicago Tribune.

From AI which agrees with Tribune reports:

"The proposed Chicago Bears stadium site in Hammond, Indiana, has drawn controversy because it is located on a former industrial dumping ground, primarily comprised of a massive "slag heap".

"Monsters of The Slag Heap"
If I recall correctly, Giants stadium was built on a landfill (and possibly Jimmy Hoffa’s body). If you need a lot of land, you want cheap land.

I would almost have preferred Gary, as that area really needs an economic shot in the arm. Pity what happened to that town…

Also worth noting is that the move to Hammond is not a done deal, yet.

The move to Indiana is only 35 miles or so away. That's not like the Colts moving from Baltimore to Indianapolis. The Indiana state government understands the value that an NFL franchise can bring. There was talk in the past about building a new stadium for the Saints east of New Orleans near the state line with MS, possibly even in MS. There is plenty of space there and many fans there. Older stadiums are often in awesome locations near the cities like the Superdome is in downtown town New Orleans within walking distance to hotels, restaurants, & the French Quarter. I think the NFL is pushing for these palatial stadiums everywhere and has rewarded each new one with a Superbowl.
