And I do mean "hack".I've been meaning to post this for a long while but keep forgetting. A couple of years ago I needed to get my Drum Room speakers up in the air due to space limitations. As the room is unfinished storage cosmetics weren't a concern and placement wasn't a huge concern either. However: money was and I didn't want to screw anything into the cabinets.
So I dreamed this up: I mounted eye bolts to joists, used vinyl coated cable, some eyebolts, turnbuckles etc.. and then fastened the speakers to cheap shelving boards with lashing straps. The turnbuckles allowed me to fine tune the cable distance so I didn't have to be overly precise mounting each cable and still coming out level.
It's not very pleasing to the eyes but it's sturdy. They've been up for about 2 years now. Every 6 months or so I check the cables and lashings to make sure nothing looks weak. I used anchor bend knots for the cable.
