Don is absolutely right. Harbeths open up (at least the two pair I've had) on rigid but not non-massy stands.

I wouldn't be too critical about evaluating the speakers yet. The sound of speakers can change after they get broken in. It's not just our perception of the sound. In some cases, as with my Energy RC-LCR it changed dramatically. I think you will find the bass will tighten up in time, and that will make it sound more real.

My Reference 3A Veena II speakers were broken in at the factory, and still the Bass is much more defined even 50 - 100 hours of more break in time.

Think I'm on the right track.If anything I can complain about is maybe is little too much bass (at least I don't have to use the loudness at very quiet listening )
It could be up to my room,speaker position or somehow I suspect stands are the reason.
Currently I am using a very heavy stands (50 kilos, filled with a mixture of lead pellets and sand) leftover of the previous speakers, and they are also twenty centimeters too high.

Lower stands are in production...we'll see

Yes,yes and yes...you guys are right, lightweight and rigid (home made) stands made a dramatic change

above I mentioned home made stands...here's how I made ​​them...lots of pictures and just a few words

1'x 1' metal square pipe from hardware store are prepared

These holes were drilled to accommodate the nuts (for spikes)

After several hours of welding, grinding (and beer of course)...

more grinding,using putty to cover imperfections...and painting in three layers

Stands are at home now.

I still have a small amount of spikes and washers from some old speakers...perfect

Because I'm crazy
I'm still workin' on man cave (room for Sui restauration)...hope it will be soon,and it would be a shame to damage any one of them (every Sansui in my house is near MINT condition)...thats why :thmbsp:

and they look gorgeous! I guess you can say all of us audio nuts are crazy. Does your wife understand you and your hobby? My wife can't understand why I have two home theaters and two 2 channel rigs and stuff in storage.

She is very tolerant (I completely occupied our living room) and on the other hand I am very stubborn...perfect combination.
For how long it will last, we'll see.

I live in a 3500sqft home, and the master bedroom has a nice walkin closet full of the stuff you just meantioned. The only thing in that closet that is mine is my fire arms...i have the smaller closet in one of the guest bed rooms. And she enjoys the home theater in the family room, and I put together a nice 2 channel system in the bed room for her and she has not touched the thing.

How do like that super tweeter on the Harbeth? If you have not invested in a SACDP, you should get one...you will be able to really get the clarity out of it with the super tweeter.

I have Marantz SA-8003,nothing special but decent CDP.Have some SACD too,but still no enough free time for careful listening.Maybe next week I'll connect 1111mv (best amp I have) and we'll see.
