Nice rack! Did you give him full price for what he was asking? Even at $1,320 which included the Pioneer rack, it was a pretty good deal. Did you buy the elegant wood cover cabinet to hide entire system $130?

Had to buy everything in the picture (including the rack) and the "elegant" wood cabinet. Paid full price actually the CL price was wrong by $50 and it was listed as more than $1320. Although He helped out with the shipping cost wich made it less than $1320 for the system. Shipping came out to be $755. Tricky part was sending a Cashiers check to a CL seller for such an amount. The shipping Company helped out with that. It is still a gamble of course since your are not there to inspect the stuff. I thought about driving there but if you add everything up it is not cost effective.

HPM-150's, well since this comes with Speakers and I have the set of S-1010's I am running out of room. TT wise I have more than enough to filll that need. This also comes with a Technics SL-1300 MK2. The CT-F1000 does not work of course but I have good hopes a belt kit will fix that.

Well my shipment came in today!
The packaging was impressive, but at closer look a hole was poked in the cardboard box. Maybe a fork from a forklift? The speaker behind it has a large scuff mark.
The Rack system was placed in a nice wooden crate that was screwed close. Unfortunallly the false floor shifted and the rack was found tiled in the box. This has bent up the Tuner chassis so much that the switch cover came off. I did not have time to make a picture of the Tuner or even unwrap the speaker from the shrinck warp. Had to rush back to work.
I think overall the packaging was very poorly done. The large cardboard box was filled with peanuts and boy what mess that made.
The rack or the individual components were not secured and imo the rack should have never been shipped on the castors but seperately supported and secured.
I sent the pictures to the shipping company.
And yes the wife was surprized.

These were never mentioned in the sale. I found them neatly wrapped in the large cardboard box. They do smell like smoke but none the less what a nice guy to throw these in! (SE-505)

Looks like a bunch of bad news for the Tuner.
When I pulled the knobs off the retaing nut with a piece of tread came off as well. She must have taken a large blow. I think the entire face plate has taken a permant bow. I am nut taking it apart any further untill I hear from the insurance.
The second Picture shows the scuffmark on the Speaker.

I would be fuming if I was you... I'm praying you had it insured for what it would cost if you had to replace everything in that rack.. From the pics I've seen, the rack took a lot of damage, and so did the tuner.. be sure to check out all the other components as well..

I can't believe it was shipped without taking each component out of the rack and disassembling the rack itself. That's pure laziness.

These racks are not sturdy enough to hold all the heavy components and survive shipping without sustaining some damage. Since the components are only supported by the screws in the front, a drop from any kind of distance will distort the face plate on any one of the components not to mention the damage that may occur to the rack, the casters or the electronics inside of each component.

The damage is enough to make me cry. I agree with the comments that the items should have been packed separately. It is obvious he made an attempt to pack properly but it wasn't well thought out. I absolutely hate peanuts in packing. They always shift and if the items are heavy they are sure to get damaged. I also have a spec system (Spec 1, Spec 2, TX-9500 II etc). I drove 600 kms to pick it up rather than even talk about shipping. The guy was a smoker and everything was grungy but I saw its potential. Even for packing in my car I took the time to take the rack apart and pack each component separately in blankets and foam padding that I brought with me. I did complete restoration on every item and would never part with them.
I hope you can do something with the tuner. Whatever it takes is well worth the effort. Don't let the damage get you down. You have what will be a fantastic and beautiful system once you get it cleaned up.

Like so many things we like, will never be made again, and for some their life dream to own.

Sellers just want them gone, take short cuts and have no idea or could care less just how careless the shipping companies are.

Yes, it is sad although I am still in a good mood due to receiving the rest. The seller said he was handicapped and could not handle the stuff. The shipping company looked like there were and probably are a reputable company. They picked up the stuff, crated it and shipped it. I am awaiting instructions from the company in regards on what to do with it. The Speaker turned out to be ok, since the scuff mark is only on the rear. Took all of the components out off the rack last night and they all look ok. All screws were loose. The Rack however hase quite a bit of wear possibly not all related from shipping this time. I have seen post before of how the bottom shelf does not stand up very well.
Surprizingly the cassette deck works in FF and REW but the heads will not engage, I did not expected any movement from the take up reels at all. Maybe the Tape sensing switch or the solenoid.
I was looking for a post of someone who has restored his rack but could not find it. I am missing 6 off the disc fasteners all from the bottom. Are these standard sizes?

unfortunately they were in my garage (hit by a tornado), but I will check it out tomorrow - I bought some of the sensor switches for mine and had extra. Not sure if I can find them, but I will look. Search thru the posts to find the part number - came from digikey. Only a few bucks a piece
