harman kardon? no love?

Its not exactly 'vintage' yet, but a friend of mine has a HK AVR-20 Mark II reciever hooked up to a set of JBL L5 towers, and it sounds absolutely floor-shaking amazing! Not incredibly experienced with audio equipment myself, but I wouldn't ever knock Harman Kardon.

My son still has this HK non-vintage receiver in service...

... in his gaming system. Here's the unit getting ready for some "contact cleaning"... The only thing I've had to do to it is keep it clean, both electrically and mechanically. Works great. Model No. is AVR-20. Only perceived negative about this unit is that it was mfg. in Korea. c. 1995, IIRC.

Here she is:

I have a H/K Citation 5.1 power amp and preamp/video processor. LOVE them to death, and will probably never get rid of them.

The amp is super sexy, built like a tank (HEAVY) and very versatile. My dad currently runs 2 in his HT, originally 3 but years ago he swapped subs and it came with its own separate amp.

Mine is running my Cerwin-Vega AT-12s and soon will probably power my set of CV D5s at the same time (Hurray stacks!)

Hi,

After going thru a bunch of cassette decks ( Naks and Tandberg's) that
seemed to always have something go wrong with them. I picked up two
Harman Kardon's TD392 and CD91 and they work Great
very easy to restore and clean, So here's the love. :music:

I've not had the pleasure of the vintage H-K, but I'll give a big thumbs up for the AVR 25II. Bought it new over ten years ago. It currently runs the home theater section of things very very well.

That little beast has taken everything I've thrown at it and will shake the wall with a good solid sound. At time I've used it to test speakers that float through this house and have never had so much as a blip of a problem. An excellent, reliable unit that does everything pretty darn well.

I have a H/K 330c (bout 15 wpc) that I am using with a Yamaha CDP, and a pair of Realistic Shack Minimus 7W speakers.

I would put this system up against any of the fancy, all-in-one, >$200 mini systems that you see at your local CC or BB in a heartbeat!

A not well known fact is that Harman Kardon and Onkyo were considered a "cut above" similar Kenwood, Pioneer, and Sansui units produced doing that vintage, with excellent build quality and their prices reflected it. (I know....I know..... I'm asking for it...Let the flaming begin)

I wouldd love to try this, I always enjoy listening to low-powered receivers and small bookshelf speakers. I try to make a silk purse out of a sow's ear (maybr that was a bit harsh)... HK has been one of those things that, I like the looks, I hope I don't just get the "placebo effect" when I hook 'em up.:music:

I have a TD-262 cassette deck I bought new about 1985. I don't use it nowadays but it made great recordings and never gave me any trouble.

Ta 230

I have a HK TA 230 which, I am told, was the first stereo receiver. Some people quarrel with that, saying that it wasn't "true" stereo. I'm not sure of the difference, but I won't argue with them because I don't know that much about it.

I've recently had a repair shop call it junk and suggest I dump it into the drink. Naturally, I'm conflicted.

Got HK 6900 integrated amp. cant say much about it except that it sounds neutral and not offensive to my ear. btw large toroidal and very nice headsink.:thmbsp:

I had the Harmon Kardon A500 running 12" bass reflex Goodmans and gave the system to my mother in law. She absolutely loved the system. Your A500 is the best looking one I've ever seen!

I've grown fond of an HK 505 integrated that I bought from a fellow AKer a couple months back. (Miss it yet, Richard?) I had been thinking of getting one of the x30 receivers, but I don't use the tuners in the rec's I have now. This model has 60 wpc and all of the advantages of the classic SS receivers.

Since the HK lovers have come out, I'll throw this out there. Anyone know a resource for HK parts? I went to Harman's site, but they no longer carry parts for the HK X30 series receivers. Bummer. I need a foot.

Parts units are the most appropriate for cosmetic parts. I'd consider swapping out all 4 feet with something else. Far less painful, IME.

Cheers,

David

Yeah. I was thinking i might do that. I have some nice thick dowel i should be able to work with.

HK in Sweden

Hi there

When I was 14 years old I had already been bitten by the hifi bug. Back then (-73) a Marantz receiver was the ultimate component you could buy - but the price tag here in Sweden was also much bigger than on the Pioneers, Kenwoods and...the Harman/Kardon. After careful listening to all above mentioned brands, I liked the H/K best. And I got me a 330B, a pair of EPI 100 on stands and a Micro Solid-1 turntable. Now close to 40 years later I have a whole bunch of Marantz receivers and even a Kenwood. I also have my 330B in perfect working condition. It works just as good as it did when new, havent even changed a lamp on it. On my 50th birthday a friend of mine gave me H/K 630 Twinpower in mint condition as a gift. And.......its the best and most musical of them all! I am now looking for a 930 to complete my collection.
