Harmon Kardon Confusion

" have a low dollar avr 146 ht receiver. Its only rated for 30 wpc RMS. + - 25 amps.

Very clean sounding unit. With plenty of bass using my monitor 9 v.3 Paradigms. Ive had it going on 2 years and its still going strong.

BTW it has 10 decibals of headroom at full rated power. Ive yet to year it struggle. Even with the volume at 0 db. Much too loud for a night at the movies...hehehI like it".

It's good to hear that, I am wondering how it will sound with my monitors?

After a thread on small speakers versus large, I have decided to buy a pair of small speakers to give them a try. To be fair, I want to make them good quality. So I will try them first on this H&K with the new Oracle turntable that I have ordered. Here's the link to the little speakers.

My first HK was a HK 670 that I bought back in 79. It was rated at 60 watts per channel at .006% THD.
Those 60 watts per, drove FOUR SpeakerLab Super Seven's to level's that consistently got me in trouble till I rented a house with stone facing...Problem solved!

"Plitron; Let us know how they sound"!!!!

You bet I will, and that darn Oracle turntable is costing me a little too.
My buddy has almost 4,000 albums, I'll have to pick out a good one.:beer:

BTW, if you use the quote button, you won't have to type everything out! :D

EDIT: I'm just funnin' with ya! It took me a couple of posts at first to figure it all out! :thmbsp:

Yo plitron. Just a thought. External phono stages blow the crap outta almost every single receiver based one I have heard.

Since you are gettin an oracle, what phono stage are you using?

I am thinking that my particular unit, the AVR35 is one of their cheap ones.
What'cha Think? :beer::lurk:

Have you taken a look at its innards?

One very rough indicator of quality to me is the binding posts. If they didn't scrimp on those, maybe they used some quality parts inside as well.

Before you hook it up to good speakers, hook it up to some cheap ones that you wouldn't mind losing. I learned that one the hard way.

I have an AVR25-II that I absolutely love. Feels "under rated" for it's 75W/chan. rating in stereo. It is actually not as detailed I would like for surround (the Denon does that very nicely) but I would not hesitate to pick up another AVR for music duties. :zoom:

Most of the AV receivers that we might think about like Pioneer, Denon, Sony, HK, TEAC, etc. run well in 2 channel. The older 5.1 units usually come with phono sections too :)

Okay, I just tested it on the EPI Mircotowers, or whatever they are.
Sounds great in 2 channel.:beer::lurk:
