HDCD decoding (which DAC)

To my knowledge, it does NOT.

Then again, the OP has already said he just bought a new disc player and is not in the market for another disc player,
he just would like an economical HDCD DAC.
But sadly, there are no New affordable DACs that do HDCD.
My post was a sidebar to the discussion here. A post regarding OPPO decoding capabilities just made me wonder about what disc formats my OPPO 205 would play, having not looked into it since I purchased the OPPO specifically to enjoy multi-channel SACD and downloads via RCA connection to my 20 year old Sony TA-P9000ES Multi-channel Analog Preamplifier. At any rate, I hope the OP can quench his thirst for whatever means to music he desires.

That wasn't meant as a flame - I've owned a number of Oppo players, Bluray and not, but sadly, Oppo dropped support of HDCD in their final models ...

Are you saying that it can be used in the burning process so you can hear it when playing the CD on a normal player?

That's not what he's saying. What he's suggesting is ripping the HDCD with a program that can decode it on your PC, and listening to it that way. The disc then becomes irrelevant, as you'd be using your computer for playback. You won't be able to rip it, burn it to a disc and play it back in your CD player and still get the "HD" benefit. That's not how it works - there's no magic process to make your existing CD player HDCD compatible. Sorry.

Or a dedicated media player like a RPi, microRendu, etc. I have a whopping total of one, but dbPoweramp decodes the layer resulting in a 44/24 FLAC file. It's actually 44/20, but padded to 24 bits for compatibility.

After hearing this I now know that standard cd has real potential. I am happy to stick with it as long as the recording is good. No need to spend more money.
