Headphones with an MX110--tape monitor?

Hi all. I'm trying to figure the best way to add phones to my MX110 tuner/pre. I'm thinking about running a Schiit Magni 2 headphone amp out of the tape mon output. Thataway I should be able to cut speaker volume using the 110's volume control while retaining a line signal to the headamp. Has anyone tried this? Can you see any issues with this setup? Thanks for any help--Paul

For a Z model this should work OK, a non Z may have loading problems.
Good morning, Terry. I'm running a Rega headphone amp out of the MX110 tape out, but I miss having my tone controls (and loudness button). Any reason I can't put the Rega between the MX and the 2100? It's got a passive through, I believe. I haven't paid for the Rega yet, so I don't want to blow it up. Thanks, as always...

The only downside to doing that is that the volume control on the MX110 would also be in the circuit. No biggie.

Cool, damacman. I'm going to give it a try. Terry suggested offsite that the headamp load might kill the low end slightly, but it's worth a shot.

And he may be correct. The impedance ratio between the two is likely not ideal given the difference in age. This certainly could affect the frequency response. Only one way to find out ...

So how is it ? Did you try also connected to the main outs to have the signal going throught the entire preamp ?
I am wondering if I should buy the Uber version to connect to main outs than sending to my amp, or just getting the regular version connected to tape out.

Let me know what you think.

Hi @joss2178. The short story: I wasn't nuts about the Rega Ear--weak low end, and the gain was way to high for my Grados, which I love (bad synergy, I guess). So I sold it and bought a Schiit Asgard 2. As opposed to the Rega, it sounds wonderful coming out of the tape out, so I haven't felt the need to move it to the main out yet. I'm sure I will eventually, but I'm chasing other rabbits for now.

Trade your 2100 for a 2105 then you will have a headphone jack and on and off switch for the speakers.
