I heard a pair of Klipsh speakers today and was taken away for several moments. Can't remember the specific model but they were huge and apparently meant to be driven by tubes. Thinking early sixties model. The horns Klipsh has is something to be heard. I have some Advents, KLH and JBL's but these were on another plane. Wow!

we were playing some cd selections from a mono beatles cd, and Paul's bass and piano playing was out of this world. Probably a lot had to do with such an open studio space I'm guessing? think he was driving it with a small advent amp too

Sounds like La Scalas. They are almost exactly the same dimensions as a standard washing machine or dryer.

And they'll sound like that in a small room, too.

Side benefit is they'll blow dry your clothing with just a few watts input.

Yes that is a typical reaction on encoutering a typical Klipsch Hertitage type speaker for the first time! I just got through rebuilding a set of Cornwall 1's and am very impressed with their sound. When I first listened to them in stock form I was amased how well a 30+ year old speaker like that actually sounded- then imagined how much better it would be with some modifications. Well a month down the road & $300 later these CW's are absolutely amazing, so much so my wife had me move them in place of my beloved Econowave K9's (avatar). While I really loved my K9's, I honestly did not lose on the deal!

If you can get your hands on a set of CW's, LaScallas, K-Horns or even Belles then do so at all reasonable cost. I found my stock pair of CW's for $500 and that was pretty good considering their great condition. The wonderful things about these old Klipsch is that they can easily be modified for incredible sound and are fantastic with most tube equipment. The not so good thing is that people seldon will let them go up for sale, after all they are a true musical statement, American made by a true audio genius!

I have a pair in my tiny two room (<250 s.f.) apartment. I got a fantastic deal on them, and struggled mightily with the decision to give up so much precious floor space. I'm so glad I got them.

People love them or hate them. LaScalas are great small bar/apartment rockers just for starters.

I have heard LaScalas, heresy and others, driven by solid state amps. I could only take about 10 minutes at a time. They did not leave a favorable impression with me. I would like to try again sometime with a tube amplifier.

Many think they still sound bad. It would take a very inaccurate tube amp indeed to compensate for what gives LaScalas and Heresys their characteristic sounds. Though I've no doubt such amps exist, 1959 Knightkits and such. ;)

My local Chipotle rocks Hereseys. Not sure if other Chipotle's do?

I'm sure they are hooked up to some BPC receiver, poor things.

Yikes. I like an occasional burrito, but I won't "eat-in" at Chipotles because of the "aural atmosphere". Every surface in these places reflects sound. I find it uncomfortable.
