Hello From San Diego, CA

Welcome! How's the thrifting/garage saleing in SD?
I won't steal Sqdlvr's thunder on this one, but would like to share my opinion: I will venture a guess that there may be more retired servicemen, many of which are officers, in San Diego, National City and Coronado than perhaps in any other city in the US. Going garage saleing is always a hit or miss, but we have seen many nice items offered at such sales, as well as a ton of nice stuff on the local Craigslist.

Demand is, of course, super competitive to match: Buyers and flippers travel down from L.A. for CL deals, and from south of the border for garage sales.

Don't know much about going garage saleing for stereo equuipment as I only go to see what kind of vinyl is for sale....usually stuff everyone already has but once in a while you might find something you were looking for a long time....especially imports from folks who've gone overseas...

...I was told about it by the repair guy at Stereo Tech on Adams Ave in San Diego while we brought in some equipment to be repaired.

Hopefully you all can help me when I have questions or need advices on stereo related stuff.

Don't ever take equipment to the repair guy at Stereo Tech!

Just kidding!!.

Anyway, welcome to AK, sqdlvr. You're spot on about all that good garagin' in SD with all those retired military guys (and gals), my brother had a field day when he moved there in the late 1980s. Too bad that with the arrival of ebay came the gear-flipping hordes of Los Angeles who have managed to clean out SD, OC & just about everything else around these parts. :tears:

Yep...the only reasonable used record store that I like here is located in the Downtown Hillcrest area called Record City. Prices are good and they always have good stuff to choose from.

Welcome aboard! I took my 9090DB over to Fred & Jason at Classic Audio Repair and Jason did a great job recapping it. I presently have my Pioneer CT-F750 there also! Your in good hands! Take advantage of all the AudioKarma has to offer. I have learned a lot here and you will too!

Again Welcome!

Welcome...

I work right around the corner from that shop ( big building with microwave tower on top).

Live in Poway.

If you've never been to Stereo Unlimited in the Sports Arena area, give it a shot. They sell LPs, albeit a bit higher in price.

Thanks for the tip! I'll give Stereo Unlimited a try...do they sell Rock/Pop/Soul albums also and what are the price ranges?

My apologies to Jordan. I have a problem with remembering names! Jordan, I will always be grateful for the excellent job you did on my 9090DB. And after this thread, I don't think I will have a problem remembering it!

Hello from San Diego also. There are a few record stores around here. Try Cow's in OB. Small, but good selection. There are also a few in North Park on University.

Off The Record isn't that across from the Brass Rail Bar also by that Jamaba Juice? I thought the closed it down....I always thought they were a little over priced as you could find a better looking copy of the same record at Record City on 6th....
