Help me pick a bourbon?

If spicey ain't your thing, the Weller line of wheaties are a very nice bang for the buck. As I understand it, Weller 12 is the same mashbill as Pappy's.

Yeah, right....

Pappy never sells at MSRP retail....liquor stores may only get an allotment of one or two bottles a year. Most have a waiting list, where people have been waiting for 5 or 6 years (!)
You can buy it right now, on the secondary market, if you`re willing to pay anywhere from $550 to $2200 a bottle, depending on the age.

There are many more sane choices to be had....

The Evan Williams Single Barrel always does me right, but I wish it had higher proof. I keep coming back to the "Kickin' Chicken" - Wild Turkey 101 - for a high-rye mashbill. Buffalo Trace and Elijah Craig get a little sweet for my taste.

Actually I was in my local NH Liquor store and saw this on the shelf with the other bourbons so at least some stores do carry it.

This is an individual thing. I would pick BT over the others you list, but thats just me. I do find BT tends to vary a bit. Lately in that price range I've liked Old Bardstown 100 proof and Old Grandad 114 proof.

Some have sweet corn and wheat profiles, others are spicy rye profiles, and everything in between. You will favor some notes and others not so much. The next guy, different idea of whats prefered.

Just jump in and start splashing around. Also, first blush doesnt always get it either. Some things grow on you as you try them. I dont have much luck tasting several in a row, unless I am very familiar with them. buy a bottle, taste it half way down, (not all at once) then add another bottle, taste it half way down, add another. At that point you will be able to compare them with each other.

Dont want to invest that much? Finish the bottle, then try another, then come back next time. It is surprising sometimes what grows on you. Take advice as general guidance only.

And good luck finding it. That's all I used to buy.:tears: SW is finally coming to the end of its day, it takes the 23 yr Family Reserve to get it. 20 year Family Reserve is now adulterated with BT squeezings, although very good ones.

I dont think Lot B 12 year has any in it, but is almost as good as 20 yr was when it was 100% SW..
