Help! Problem With MS750

This unit has been flawless until last night.

I was using it Friday night with no issues, turned it off around 10 pm and headed for bed.

Went up to it last night, the little red light was on under the standby key, I pushed it and, bupkis. Nothing happened.

I unplugged it, thinking maybe it would reset itself. When I plugged it back in the standby light began to blink, I watched it for awhile and nothing changed so off to bed. When I got up this morning, the light had stopped blinking and again was a solid red. I crossed my fingers, pushed the button and - blinking again with no response.

Is there anything I can do or just call the dealer in the morning?

Thanks!

How long did you leave it unplugged for? Sometimes it takes a while for a reset. It's also possible that there is a combination of buttons for a reset - hopefully some knowledgeable members will chime in.

I had a similar scare with my C220 a year or so ago, but a button combination brought it "back to life".

Good luck!

The power supply on my MS750 died and was replaced by Escient. Had same symptoms as you are reporting. Call the Escient hotline and take it from there. If you need to send it in-will take about a week to be repaired. They may be able to save your music.....my music was saved and put on an external hard drive.

Thanks.

I would assume whatever is on the hard drive should be OK. A dead power supply really shouldn't have any effect on the drive. I hope.

I guess I'll call Mike at LM in Tempe in the morning.

clarbin.......With the MS750 in Standby (red LED on), try pressing and holding the Standby/On button for at least 4 seconds, until the red LED begins flashing, then release the button. When the red LED stops flashing, and is on (no longer flashing) the MS750 should be ready to go. Then press the Standby/On button again to turn the server on. Try this first before you give up on it.

Well, I unplugged it again, after I plugged it back in the red light keeps flashing. I'll wait for a bit and see if I get a solid red light then try your idea, but I think it's gonna need a trip to service.

If you've got the video hooked up, put your TV on or point your web browser to it, that may give some indication of what's going on with it...
I'd call tech support 1st thing on Monday 1-866-458-6910.
It sounds like either the power supply, or the hard drive got corrupted.
Good Luck...

clarbin.......The restart procedure I offered is right out of the McIntosh MS750 manual. Hopefully, a trip to the service center can be avoided.

Try what Dan suggested. Just hold down on the red button for a few moments, (it will re-start the device). Restarting the unit is different then turning on and off the power. It tends to cure a lot of ills!

Let us know after you try that if it worked for you.

My browser can't find the server.

It won't seem to reset as long as the light is flashing. It stopped flashing sometime after I went to bed last night and when I woke up, so I'll give it some time to see if it stops flashing.

Thanks for all your ideas, I appreciate them.

Here's the latest..........

While I was dinkin' around on the computer, I thought I would try to access the server one more time, it's in another room so I couldn't see what was happening. I was able to locate the server and the menu popped up. When I went into the other room to see what was happening, the server was up and displaying a CD, but it would not work and I wasn't able to do anything to it on the network either.

What I was able to do was to shut it off which gave me a solid red light, and then go through the restart process. The red light has been flashing for some time now as well as I can hear the transport whirring occasionally.

We'll see what happens.

Well it's been over 3 hoursand the light is still flashing.

The good news is that I can now hear the fan blowing which wasn't doing anything before.

Anyone know how long these things take to restart, or am I just waisting time?

I performed a restart on my MS750 one time, and it took less the 4 minutes.

Did you ever turn off (completely remove power) from the MS750 while the three red LEDs above the Guide, Music, and Radio buttons were flashing? When your system is turned off (Standby), is power removed from the MS750, or is it also put into Standby?

NO! Never when the 3 lights are flashing. I think that's when it's encoding to the hard drive.

I never remove power from the unit. Just hit the s-by on the unit or use the remote.

I guess it's time to make that call.....1-800-SCREWED.

One good thing, it is McIntosh, and it will be fixed good as new whatever the problem is.

Dan,

I wouldn't say that, but I think that the Mcintosh/Escient help support line is really one of the best in the industry. I bet that they sort it out with him!

Mike.......I was only joking with the telephone number. I hope you are right about the support line. Any extra stress over the holidays is a royal bummer, especially with your McIntosh gear.

Well - I took it in to service today.

Hopefully it won't be too long before it's back.

It's amazing how you depend on stuff like this.

I have nothing but great things to say about their support. Excellent is all I can say.
