That stiffener could work ok, but I tend to shoot for something that has its other side open to free air. Like an outer chassis wall.
You could mount it up next to the old bias rectifier...
This is a power supply for a personal build. See how they are tucked up in the chassis. They have heat transfer compound on them and theres a row of vent holes above them to encourage air flow via convection.
